Commercial Description:
Piraat is a wickedly rich and rounded brew that packs a mighty punch. The powerful glow builds up from inside. Deep golden with a subtle haze. Lots of hops and malt. Mild sweetness. Reminiscent of bread dough, spices and tropical fruits.

On tap @ La Trappe. Brings me back to the old Sharp Edge days... Pours a cloudy golden color with a nice, white head. Hoppy, yeasty aroma, as you would expect. Light body, yeasty with a hoppy finish. Bitter... A step back in time.

Pours an orange/gold with a thick, foamy nicely laced white head. Aroma is quite fruity and yeasty with a hint of spices. Flavour about the same with sour and bitter notes. Great.

Bottle - Poured a darkish amber in color with a small white head that faded to a thin rim around the top of the beer. A small amount of lacing on the glass. Aroma is quite malty and heavy with Belgian yeastiness... some citrus noted as well. Flavor is very fruity... apples, pears, cherries, lemon... with a plenty of malts and some spices (coriander, of course). Slight sourness with the citrus. Finishes with a nice hop bitterness. Alcohol, although apparent as you drink the beer, is not distinct in the flavor. Arrr... I like this one...

Dark golden with a white foamy head. Yeasty aroma. Smooth creamy yeasty bread taste, hides alcohol well.

Solid beer if you like strong Belgian Ales. Piraat has plenty of spice, body, and alcohol to put you down for the night. I didn’t think that the taste of this beer was as fruity as it was spicy with loads of coriander and and honey. Good sipping beer that grabs the back of your throat as you swallow. If you don’t know what I mean by that...try it.

Golden beer with frothy yellow head. Malty with metallic and heavily alcoholic. Average for the style.

Bottel 33. Nice yellow color, the alccol is vey present but the aroma is nice anyway. More fruty than Duvel beers. Quite bitter at the end.

Pours a beautiful amber-golden colour with an impressive fluffy white head. Aroma is very malty, with a subtle fruitiness and even a hint of toffee. Malt is the dominant flavour throughout, however the sweetness brought about from the grape-like and sweet citrus flavours balances this bitterness well. The alcoholic flavour shocked me at first, but after a few mouthfuls the alcoholic flavour is completely masked by the complexity gained from the combination of bitter and sweet flavours. Quite crisp despite its maltiness. Yo ho ho!
