elihapa (1033), Honolulu, California, USA Jul 20, 2008 From bottle. Pours a dark apricot, with a nice Belgian-style head. Aroma of dark fruit, malt, and sourdough bread. Mouthfeel is full-bodied with prickly carbonation. Flavor was too forward for me: it had nice fruit notes, but what struck me as odd was the mid-palate and finish, which were overwhelmed by a certain sourdough-alcohol-bitter flavor. Perhaps my bottle was bad, but this flavor did not fit my description of a delicious Belgian strong ale. Pound for pound, I prefer Gulden Draak, Duvel or Chimay. JamesD (192), Centreville, Virginia, USA Jul 20, 2008 I think this is a great Belgian ale. The aroma is spicy and a bit honeysuckle/fruit like. It has a lovely burnt orange hue with a frothy white head. The flavor is yeast spice with notes of caraway, nutmeg, and maybe some ginger to start followed by mellow honey and apple. Kind of like a bigger, meaner brother to Orval. BoBoChamp (1334), Gent, Belgium Jul 20, 2008 33cl, from De Hopduvel Gent, complex brew, cloudy, good head, good brew, but not a topper IlanMan (816), Appleton, Wisconsin, USA Jul 18, 2008 Pours a deep golden with a fizzy white head. I got a lot of spice and citrus notes in the flavor. Light coriander and orange. Good brew. Alcohol is present but still good. VitaminR (421), Colorado, USA Jul 15, 2008 Sweet honey and caramel nose, strong hints of citrus and dough. Orange with a hint of red, soapy head with good lacing. Liquoricey sweet, with huge bitterness and a alcohol bite. Effervescent, full body, long slow burning finish. Very interesting and enjoyable beer, almost like a Belgian-style Double IPA Sparky27 (1559), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Jul 15, 2008 Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy dark gold with one finger off-white head and minimal lacing. Nose is yeast, spice and bubble gum. Taste is yeast, banana, bubble gum, and citrus with a dry alcohol finish. Light-to-medium mouth feel. Easy drinker but dangerous at 10.5%. Not great, but serviceable. MiP (8793), Sønderborg, Denmark Jul 13, 2008 Bottle at ÅBF08. Clear golden colour. Small creamy white head. Good vinous flavour, some Belgian yeast. Gets grainy in the finish. The alcohol warms, but is not rough. Whitebread (3), tampa, Florida, USA does not count Jul 12, 2008 i liked it not too hoppy for me nice alchohal content but it looked kindA horrible in the glass. nice head at first but it disolved quick. i didnt get the sweet tase my friend did i thought it was decent but ive had better.
