jblendy (518), Midland Park, New Jersey, USA Jan 29, 2007 Golden pour with a nice creamy white head. Light hop aroma, with powerful spice, and a nice sweetness, perhaps even a hint of mint. A fair amount of hop spice, not much bitterness though, with some of the obvious tripel attributes. Yeast, big candy sugar, a good bit of alcohol, and some tropical fruitiness. Palate medium/full, dryer than expected, alcoholic, with some light spice. Overall, some of the alcohol comes off a bit too strong and masks some of the flavor at times, but still has a very nice warming effect. Other than that, interesting and unique, but I prefer chouffe’s take on this style by far. vanvenlo (794), Glen Iris, Australia Jan 24, 2007 27 June 2006 - Big spicy hop, light sweet aroma. Light cloudy and amber colour, good head and sheet lacing. lovely sweet fruit malt, big spice, some spirit and a touch of smokiness flavour. Great sweet balance, unique finish and lingering spiceness. maximusud (27), Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, USA Jan 22, 2007 A good IPA, a bit sweet though, as you would expect from a tripel ale. This brew combines two amazing types of beer, but the end result isn’t nearly as good as either of those two by themselves. Sombeast (151), Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA Jan 20, 2007 330 ml bottle served in a tulip glass. Aroma has a hefty yeasty, aged sour lemon character. Pours a crystal clear light golden color with a two-finger head that collapses into a sustaining lumpy white head. Light to moderate bodied with a well carbonated mouthfeel. The flavor is spicey and dominated by a dry sourness that holds steady in the back of my mouth and throat. Inhaling immediately after I drink, the yeasty aroma absolutely floods my lungs. Alcohol is well hidden except for a tiny numbing of my lips and tongue. Liberal lacing left on the glass. Lunkie (1020), Glen Iris, Australia Jan 19, 2007 Captain Feathersworth would love this bottle. Slight smokey aroma with spice. Clear red amber colour with good head and lacing. Bitter malt hop flavour with beacon. Fizzy palate. JB175 (1654), Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 18, 2007 Golden color with lots of bubbles that turn into massive foam. Aroma is dominated by sweet fruits - orange, guava, & others, with some bread and yeast thrown in. Taste was very sweet upfront, with lots of chewy fruit-malt flavors. Enough hop presence to balance things out. Pleasant sweetness, but not complex enough to compete with the top dogs in the category. Overall, a pretty good Belgian. beerbill (1918), Laurel, New York, USA Jan 17, 2007 330 ml bottle. Pours a lightly hazed gold with a thick, fluffy linen white head. Excellent lacing. Lots of tiny carbonation bubbles rising to the surface similar to a glass of champagne. About 2/3 through the glass, I noticed the haze had disappeared and the beer had become a brilliant, clear gold. Light but pleasant yeasty aroma. The flavor was initially sweet like rock candy. Yeast and banana were also present in the flavor. Definite warming at the finish from the alcohol. VikingHammer (362), Lynnfield, Massachusetts, USA Jan 16, 2007 Updated: Feb 29, 2008Pours golden orange with nice, white head, Nice spicy fruity aroma. Smooth for a 10.5. Overall Good Belgium.
