StompBrockmore (300), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jan 16, 2007 Updated: Jan 17, 200733cl bottle - pours a deep orange/gold, slightly cloudy but mostly clear. Fluffy white head on top that dissipated fairly quick. Lots of carbonation in the glass. Aroma is bready, hoppy, with bright spicy fruit notes, including some grapefruit and pineapple, and quite floral. Flavour is very smooth, especially for the ABV. Lots of yeast, citrus, malt and some light bitterness from the hops, along with the aforementioned grapefruit and pineapple flavours. Some bubblegum, coriander, and a little bit of apple as well. Definitely tropical. Very fresh tasting, with a thick and full mouthfeel. Very nice Belgian. boFNjackson (1233), Portland, Oregon, USA Jan 15, 2007 Updated: Jan 16, 2007Poured a murky, dull orange with a great white head. Fruity and floral aroma. Thick, fizzy palate. Flavors of citrus fruits, metalics, a little sweetness that is balanced by bitter hops and malts. As the beer warmed the tropical, citrus fruit and the sweet flavors were really accentuated. It’s perfect for just sipping and enjoying for an hour or so. I least that’s what I did with it. detroiter (958), Euphoria, Minnesota, USA Jan 14, 2007 it pours a lightly hazed copper amber with a couple inches of creamy white foam. Good head retention, decent lacing. On tap, the aroma is less prevalent than I remember from the bottle, but it was still pretty nice, with apricot, orange, and lots of vaporous alcohol.
The malt flavor is somewhere between a honeymalt and a mild caramel, bold and beautiful. A variety of other flavors are present - notable bubblegum, fresh yeast, orange-flavored tic tac candies, fresh tangerine, and some dry coriander in the finish. Lots of orange liquer and dry spice in the aftertaste.
Full bodied, great carbonation. One awesome beer. Great bottled, great on tap Svejk (12), Washington, USA Jan 14, 2007 I prefer Piraat to most tripels I’ve had. I know that it is categorized as a Belgian Strong Ale, but the distinction between a tripel and a strong golden ale is pretty hazy to me. This beer is smooth and balanced and hits the spot every time. orville (160), Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, USA Jan 12, 2007 Smells good, looks good, but man this is harsh. The ethanol is too overbearing and tastes slightly chalking. Its liking drinking a Duvel clone gone bad. This is not one to clamer over as the bottle claims. marcus (1826), Sacramento, California, USA Jan 10, 2007 This golden ale poured with a generous white head, eliciting a yeasty aroma. There is a full flavor with some citrus characteristics and a warming alcohol trail. screwball (796), Motala, Sweden Jan 10, 2007 Very hazy yellow body with a white creamy head. Yeast flaces floating around. A sweet aroma, citrus, banana and yeast. Flavor from citrus, malt and apple. marchcow (664), Coralville, Iowa, USA Jan 1, 2007 Bottle, Light fruity hops aroma. Sharp initial taste. Bready. Fairly thick with a bitter finish and lemon like citrus notes. Frothy white head. Clear golden color. Thick mouthfeel with strong carbonation. Good.
