COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Piraat is a wickedly rich and rounded brew that packs a mighty punch. The powerful glow builds up from inside. Deep golden with a subtle haze. Lots of hops and malt. Mild sweetness. Reminiscent of bread dough, spices and tropical fruits.

Sweet citrus scent like manderine oranges with almost vanilla undertones. Carmel flavorings with a rum like feel. Hints of white chocolate and a hidden bite that isn’t obvious. Wonderful. Made with pure love.

One of my favorite Belgians. The high alcohol content is masked by the superior flavor! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

(bottle) Pours a slightly hazy gold/amber color with a large white head that continually retains and leaves a lot of lacing on the glass. Aroma is quite nice, with plenty of bread dough, honey, light pineapple, green banana, orange zest, and potentially some coriander. Smells like a standard Tripel. Warming begins to dampen the scent, which is odd, as warming has vastly improved the flavor. The mixture of booze, spice, and yeast begin to clash as the alcohol makes more of a presence in the aroma. Taste holds plenty of peach, caramel, some unripe green banana, and a lingering note of bread with some subtle bitterness on the finish to cut the sweetness. The first drink I had tasted a bit metallic on the finish, but thankfully that taste subsided as this warmed. Some booze lurks in the far finish and provides some heat. Overall this is a standard Belgian Strong/Tripel that has a few flaws, but is solid for the most part.

Hazy light orange with an off-white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, very fruity and very yeasty. Flavor is very sweet and moderate bitter. Dry and moderate bitter finish with warming alcohol. 231011

Deze is donkerder dan de andere piraat, wel helder, minder schuim, ruikt en smaakt hetzelfde alleen een stuk sterker, vind het minder lekker

Colour is a bit darker than the lighter piraat version, bit light orange with a decent white head. Smells like sperm, alcohol, malts. Tastes very sweet, malty. Too much carbo, full body.

Thick, a mix of flavours, it seems. A difficulty one might encouter with this beer is that the drinker has to be in the right mood to enjoy it. Perhaps one should have a lighter, hoppier ale to warm up. But it is a proper Belgian ale. I have two choices of vessel for this type of beer, my Leffe glass and my Duvel glass. I think I prefer the Leffe glass. I can’t say why, call me a fool if you must. I have no idea why some Americans consider this an IPA.
