loseratheart (110), USA Oct 9, 2006 First taste was almost overpowering with alchohol. An unbalanced rating was sure to follow. But, much to my surprise, by the third sip, this had won me over. A nice sweet/strong flavor = malts were not too thick, but seemed to be just right. I didn’t get a whole lot of hops in this, maybe just the dry finish. nice. workerbee (5), Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada does not count Oct 1, 2006 Sweet smelling of candied yams with a slight vanilla undertone. Smells slightly boozy. Clear amber ale is beautiful and slightly bubbled. The colour is like a burnt pumpkin after halloween. The taste is sweet with a coffee undertone and caramel finish. You can taste the alcohol. Definitely rate this one last, or you’ll be too drunk to type! An oily and slightly fizzy palate finishes off the sip. Diagnosis = Delicious. piscator34 (1121), Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada Oct 1, 2006 Light bronze in colour with strong carbonation. Aromas are of light caramel malts, banana, corn sugar, and alcohol. Warming and boozy, with flavors of tropical fruits, herbal hops, gala apple, and a bit more banana. The carbonation and high attenuation keeps this beer from getting too cloying, but it lacks a certain amount of complexity to make it anything more than an average strong Belgian ale. tennisjoel (931), Shakopee, Minnesota, USA Sep 28, 2006 Very typical belgian aroma. Orangish yellow in color. Flavor is sugary, highly carbonated. Some barnyard yeasty qualities found in the saison style. Same situation as a lot of other beers out of this company, a little harsh on the palate and unrefined. benpickens (129), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Sep 27, 2006 Copper with massive carbonation and a MASSIVE rocky head. Smells of yeast, bread, grapefruit and spices. Spicy dryness on the palate with a long lingering dry and warming finish. ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA Sep 25, 2006 Bottle from Richard (irishboy) Thanks! Pours out a yellowish brown color. Smell is sweet and rather boozy. Some hops, some spice, yeast, and some malts. Taste is similar, overly sweet with a large amount of alcohol in it. This one makes no effort to hide its very potent body. The sweetness gets to me towards the end, but over all its pretty nice, just not in large quantities. frink (467), coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada Sep 22, 2006 Pours a honey colour with a thin head. Big sweet malty aroma, spicy yeast, apple. The taste is alcoholic but not offensively so. Malty with a brandyish flavour. Not as bad as I was expecting. AmazonMatt (284), Panama Sep 19, 2006 I think that we actually got a bad bottle of this, because it was very oxidized in the mouth, some sort of weird, and not pleasing, metal after taste. It poured a dark copper with a tiny head and strong alcohol. I got those fruits in the begining, but I was overwhelmed by the off-putting metal taste. Maybe try again? Special thanks to my wife, Peggy, for bringing this beer down from Atlanta.
