Commercial Description:
Piraat is a wickedly rich and rounded brew that packs a mighty punch. The powerful glow builds up from inside. Deep golden with a subtle haze. Lots of hops and malt. Mild sweetness. Reminiscent of bread dough, spices and tropical fruits.

330 mL bottle in gift pack from LCBO. App.: med. golden, cloudy with a full off-white, foamy head. Aroma: pleasantly sweet, apple, pear and esters of banana, biscuity-bready with sour dough notes. Palate: med bodied with moderate effervescence. Flav.: quite sweet, honey, some apple and peach, an underlying roasty-dark note and a bit of clove and spice. Very alcoholic finish with some burn. A touch bitter. Arrrrgh, matey...tis not the beer for this land lubber.

Grain and apple aroma, with some yeast noticeable. Amber pour, thick lacing head. Caramel malt and apple flavor. A little blackberry in the finish. Good body and balance.

Pours a bright golden with a huge creamy head. Big foamy sheets of lace. Bready, yeasty nose. Slightly thin on the palate but no major complaints. Sweet and citrusy. Notes of banana in the dry finish. Damn, this has some alcohol in it. It burns my belly. Nice.

From bottle. Pours a dark apricot, with a nice Belgian-style head. Aroma of dark fruit, malt, and sourdough bread. Mouthfeel is full-bodied with prickly carbonation. Flavor was too forward for me: it had nice fruit notes, but what struck me as odd was the mid-palate and finish, which were overwhelmed by a certain sourdough-alcohol-bitter flavor. Perhaps my bottle was bad, but this flavor did not fit my description of a delicious Belgian strong ale. Pound for pound, I prefer Gulden Draak, Duvel or Chimay.

Hazy orange body, small white head. Alcoholic, malty, bready aroma. Alcohol really comes through in the flavor, somewhat dominating it. Dry, sweet finish. I take off a few points for the pervasiveness of the alcohol flavor.

11.2 oz. stubby brown bottle. $3.49 each at Rick's Gourmet in Alexandria, Va. Poured out a hazy, dark yellow color, with a billowing, foamy white head. Aromas are pretty much non-existant. Slight bubble gum aroma. Not much in hop aroma or malt aroma either. Tastes sweet, peppery, and bread like. This is one powerful beer, and it will sneak up on you.

Wow, this is potent stuff, big big palate. Aroma of oranges, bread dough, sugar, yeast. Dark gold, rather clear, with a thick head. Palate is really heavy with malt, sweet fruity sugar and alcohol. Interesting and good.

Slightly hazy golden amber color with a medium white head. Aroma is yeast, spice and fruit. Tangy sweet start with tropical fruit and some spice finishing with a tart dry orangey flavor. 10.5% ABV warms the face and tummy.
