COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Piraat is a wickedly rich and rounded brew that packs a mighty punch. The powerful glow builds up from inside. Deep golden with a subtle haze. Lots of hops and malt. Mild sweetness. Reminiscent of bread dough, spices and tropical fruits.

UPDATED: OCT 11, 2008 Rating #1 Tap (7 3 7 4 16). A very light yellow beer with some rising bubbles. Somewhat lacking in complexity for a Belgian. Rating #2 Bottle ( 8 4 8 3 16) 10/10/08. A hazy golden orange color with a light foamy white head. Sweet fruity aromas with banana, pineapple, flowers, bread, and alcohol. Semi-sweet, light and airy on the palate with high carbonation, and a light fruity finish. Quite a nice strong triple like beer.

Clear dark copper with a rocky/bubbly head . Aroma is fantastic, being somewhere between a british IPA and an abbey blonde. Nice nose of dusty peaches and blonde cereal grains alongside some sweet raisin-y toffee and a semi-tropical hop twang. Flavor hits the spot with a lot of tropical pizzazz thats quickly mellowed out by a belgian estery funkiness and some belgian blonde malts with a syrupy sweet kick. I’d swear I’m getting some of the same funky-sweet malty and yeasty flavors as I would from a Chimay Blue. But blonde tasting, with a bitter mango/pear kick.

330ml bottle. Cloudy amber colour with huge, frothy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, off-white head. Fruity aroma has notes of apple, pear, gooseberry, some red fruit. Taste is moderately sweet, fruity notes of red berries, apple, a touch of honey, minimally spicy, yeasty overtones, some alcohol is permanently present, slightly bitter hoppy overtones in the finish. Rich, complex, well balanced - and with effective alcohol.

Draught at Abbots Ale House. Pours a hazy light amber-gold, half-inch foamy white head. Quite a strong sweet aroma of caramel, fresh grass, strawberry, rose. Taste is strong sweetness, light bitterness, light sourness - caramel, perfume and pineapple flavours. Slightly syrupy mouthfeel, with a light sweet and boozy finish. Wouldn’t normally go for things this sweet, but this was pretty tasty.

Poured orange with a nice white head. Fruity and floral aroma. Thick smooth palate. Flavors of citrus fruits a little sweetness that is balanced by bitter hops and malts. As the beer warmed the tropical, citrus fruit and the sweet flavors.

Poured from 330mL bottle. Golden colour with nice white head. Strong sweet malt aroma with some caramel. Sweet to taste, slightly acidic, only medium body, dry finish, can taste some of the alcohol kick.

750 ml bottle at home, poured in an oversized wineglass. BBD 16/07/2010. This is the Dorre Van Dormaal, an exclusive brew for the tourist office of the village of Zoutleeuw, Belgium. Piraat brew but with a different yeast strain. APPEARANCE: pours cloudy orange with a firm white head. AROMAS: malt, honey, port and madeira PALATE: honey sweet with a small sour bite to it. Aged well (in perfect cellar conditions as a side note). Still very fresh finish, aftertaste is lightly bittersweet. TASTE: honey and typical vintage malty taste. OVERALL: one of the first non-lambic beers I bought to age. Not as special as for example DDB SN but decent strong ale. Nice.
