COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Belgian Noël takes it’s name from Jan Baptista van Helmont (1579-1644), the Flemish chemist and physician who first discovered CO and coined the word “gas” by recognizing the existence of gases distinct from air. This energy luminary was the founder of pneumatic chemistry and also the first to bridge alchemy and early chemistry. Hats off to the man behind the bubble. Proost and Happy Holidays!

This is a beer I have been waiting to try for a long time! 22 oz bottle poured into my snifter! Bottled 12/09 A- Body is a hazy dark golden yellow hue. Cloudiness is thick and dynamic. Pours with a 1-2 finger thick foamy white head. Head eventually fades to a thin collar and traces of lacing are left behind in the glass. S-Nose is interesting and complex. A hint of alcohol astringency, soft floral hops, lemon, peppery spice, a hint of sugar, and an even smaller hint of organic malt. T-Flavor is light upfront. Peppery spice is the dominant presence upfront with a hint of organic pale malt in the background-hints of lemon and sugar come through initially as well. The finish becomes spicier with an accent of soft floral hops, candi sugar, and the slightest bit of alcohol bitterness. Left to linger is a mild sugary sweetness and a big spicy aftertaste in the back of the palate. M- Very high spritzy carbonation and a light weight-but full body. The amount of carbonation prevents the true consistency of the mouthfeel (i.e. whether it be full of booze or smooth and bready) from showing. Considering the high ABV-this masking is probably a good thing. D- This is a very good, drinkable, BSPA. The hops seem to have faded over the course of a year-and Im sure the alcohol has too. This ale sticks true to the style (golden in color and not fitting the profile for a trippel). The alcohol is kept in check-it drinks like a 7.5-8.0% ABV brew. I am more impressed with this than my review reflects. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 11-09-2010 02:32:05

2008 unmarked bomber shared thanks to mrubio. Melanoidin-rich aroma, creamy palate and nearly syrupy sweet, some spice (and no hop or alcohol notes).

750ml corked and caged. Bottled winter 2007. Best before 12/2019. Poured a clear light orange color. The head was bubbly, white, and reduced to an almost imperceptible rim in less than a minute. Apple/grape juice and clove aroma. There was also a whiff of cereal grain. Medium bodied and sweet with a warming alcohol effect. Carbonation was fairly well maintained in this three year old beer. Tasted of apple, cereal grain, and Belgian spices.

750 from Bruisin Ales. Sweet. Lots of sugar in the first taste. Some banana. Aroma is fruit, some peach and grape. That’s a Triple. A serious intense sweet Triple.

750ml bottle pours a hazy, yellowish orange with a creamy white head. Nose is yeasty, candy sugar, light spice, light pepper. Flavor is metallic, like a zinc lozenge, yeast, candy sugar, banana, spice. Full bodied and dry.

Hazy orange-brown pour with a nice light tan head. Fruity aroma with some barnyard funk, lemon, grape, and a little bit of brett. Way too sweet on the tongue - cloying, candy like sweetness which overpowers everything else. Some herbal, minty notes with alochol on the finish.

Citrus and golden fruit nose, some honey and cotton candy. Taste is moderately sweet, moderately bitter and bit astringent and minerally (pennies). Lots of cotton candy and peaches, some pear and apple. Decent.

I really wasn’t feelin’ this beer. Aroma is a big caramel presence with some light green apple notes. The favor was super sweet, I thought it was quite cloying. I often like my beers with a hint of sweetness but this was over the top.
