3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Aroma: Citrus, brown sugar, floral hints, alcohol
Appearance: Dark reddish/brown with small off-white head
Taste: Sweet, a bit syrupy.
Palate: Warm alcohol up front, lively alcohol laden mouthfeel. Chewy, although a thinner mouthfeel than I might expect.
Overall: Smooth, tasty sipper in the likes of bigfoot. This is a big beer that doesnít try to hide the alcohol. No off-notes or unpleasant flavors, making this quite pleasing to drink

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a clear chestnut color. Aroma is subdued and mellow. Mostly malt dominant, some dried fruit does come through. The flavor is very mellow and unobtrusive. Not very exciting.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle sampled at mgumby10s: This was not one of my favorites of the night, flavor is brown sugar prominent, then some bitter citrus rind, wood, spicy hops, and sort of a thin mouthfeel that was a little disappointing.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
750ml bottle courtesy of EithCubes. Pours a clear, deep amber body with an average, foamy, off-white head. Aroma is full of caramel and American hops. Some raisin, plum and cherry. Somewhat muddy. Dark fruit comes forth in the flavor with more caramel. Somewhat more pronounced and rounded flavors than in the aroma. Light alcohol presence. Full body with average carbonation for the style. Malty with a nice bitter presence and a raisiny finish. Some alcohol warmth. Overall pretty nice, but Iím kind of done after about 8 oz. Mr. Cubes, are you stealing my lines?

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
I find the sweetness just slightly cloying but otherwise this is a fine barleywine.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
2008 corked and wired bomber. Pours hazy dark copper colored. Hiighly carbonated with a large, long lasting, frothy, tan head. Aroma is very much in the English style with relatively low hops and lots of bready, doughy malts, caramel, dark fruits, and syrupy alcohol. I can easily see this evolving to the tropical fruity aromas and flavors of the aged 2006 version. Flavor is malty with some sweet molasses and fruit character but balances quite dry and a little hot yet. Full bodied and very smooth with full, soft carbonation and deep warmth. Overall, an excellent example of an English barleywine. Bottle-conditioned, it should age very well.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
750 mL (the only size bottle)
Appearance: Cloudy caramel-toffee brown with abundant antique-white, foamy, frothy head. Looks like carbonated madeira!
Aroma: A nose that tells a story! Toffee, caramel, vanilla, Old Library, hay, hop resin, violin rosin, dark chocolate, madeira.
Taste: A bit tangy and sharp, perhaps -- but this bottle is still in its infancy! This incipient sharpness leads into a smorgasbord of vinous delights. Lots of caramel, toffee, hop, and vanilla, with a sweet finish.
Palate: As the brew is still young, itís a bit hot, but a nice spritz on the tongue and throat.
Overall: Well-nuanced, well-balanced, really and truly excellent. I imagine this beer (I got two bottles just for this reason) will be stellar in a year or two. Good by itself, but I can imagine this next to creme brulee, dark chocolate, roasted almonds, or a pipe!

Who says organic beerís no good? This stuff is tip-top.
