3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: AUG 27, 2013 On tap at the source. Pours deep amber-brown with a thin khaki ring of head that doesnít lace much. Nose involves cocoa, toasted malt, earthy and herbal hops, some lighter citrus, brown sugar, and alcohol vapors. Pretty sweet, fairly bitter flavor, not intense at all. Ligher side of medium bodied, actively carbed, syrupy and sticky, with a lingering toffee-tinged bitter finish. Decent, but unrefined, drinks way too light for the style, and seems young. Age might completely erase what hops are there, though. More like an imperial amber or brown than a true barleywine.

3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Aroma: Citrus, brown sugar, floral hints, alcohol
Appearance: Dark reddish/brown with small off-white head
Taste: Sweet, a bit syrupy.
Palate: Warm alcohol up front, lively alcohol laden mouthfeel. Chewy, although a thinner mouthfeel than I might expect.
Overall: Smooth, tasty sipper in the likes of bigfoot. This is a big beer that doesnít try to hide the alcohol. No off-notes or unpleasant flavors, making this quite pleasing to drink

Bottle. Pours the color of maple syrup with a nice sized white head. This flavors and nose make it clear this is English-style...very sweet, a bit sticky, and a low to medium level of carbonation. Itís a bit hot and could probably use some age to mellow out as this was a fresh bottle. I typically like a more hopped up American version of a barleywine and this one would be better with age, but for a fresh, sweet Barleywine, it is quite good.

Shared by someone at Glimmerglass pre BCTC ’08. (Sam?) Thanks! Poured hazy brown with a very thin tan head. Aroma is sweet caramel and some sweet dark fruits. Tastes of dark fruits, sweet caramel, mild citrus hops, and sweet sticky mouth feel. Hides the alcohol quite well.

Pours a clear chestnut color. Aroma is subdued and mellow. Mostly malt dominant, some dried fruit does come through. The flavor is very mellow and unobtrusive. Not very exciting.

Bottle sampled at mgumby10s: This was not one of my favorites of the night, flavor is brown sugar prominent, then some bitter citrus rind, wood, spicy hops, and sort of a thin mouthfeel that was a little disappointing.
