COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
IPA was originally brewed strong and hoppy to survive the long trip by sea from England to India. Treat yourself to this American version of a classic strong ale. 51.2 IBU

Huge thanks to kubrick215 for bringing a fresh growler of this back from NC! Pours a golden copper/orange color with golden orange hues when held to a light source and a one finger foamy white head that slowly fades into a lasting ring. Sporadic spots of lacing left behind. Floral, perfume-like hop aroma with lots of earthy pine and sweet citrus. Hints of pine needle, grapefruit and lemon peel as well as some caramel malt and sweet alcohol. Chewy medium body with a very nice balance of bitter, earthy and sweet citrus hop flavor. Not overly dry or bitter with a slight floral character. Slight creamy presence adds to the body and the caramel, toffee malt presence adds balance. Slightly dry finish with subtle alcohol presence. Pisgah is a 100% organic brewery and it shows in how clean and quaffable this beer is.

Growler from the random guy at the Phish show. Gold pour. Aroma is spicy with hints of light pine. Similar flavor.

Bomber from City Beverage, W-S. Very dry IPA, almost like an aggressive bitter, with a vaguely chalky mouthfeel and a citrus character that’s all rind, the whole of it backed by some ripe, yeasty APA qualities. Good earthy variant as befits the brewer.

A solid ipa! Draft at my father’s pizza in black mountain. It is cloudy yellow with grassy aroma of grapefruit. Very tasty!

Thanks to MikesGroove for this beer. Aroma:Lots of malt flavor in this one, and a little citrus hoppiness. Appearance:Amber in color, very clear, low head retention. Taste:On first taste, the harsh piney hops overpower everything else. The midtaste has a flash of sweet honey flavor that fades as quickly as it came. The hops stick around, but have more citrus notes, along with some sweet nutty malt flavor in the aftertaste. Palate:There is some hoppy astringency that is harsh on the throat. Good carbonation. Overall:The hops in this beer are not the most delicious that I’ve had in an IPA, but it is true to style. In fairness, I don’t know how fresh this bottle was.

Growler shared by Maltzilla. Pours orange color with off white head. Aromas of pine and citrus. Similar flavors with some toffee and caramel. Medium body with average carbonation. Thanks Diego.

Perhaps because I am so fond of Pisgah pale ale, I found this ipa to be the tiniest bit disappointing. That’s not really fair, though, because it’s a pretty good beer ... it’s just subtle, which is not usually a quality that I associate with the style, but is an virtue nonetheless. This poured from a 22 oz bottle with a nice head and the right dark amber hue, though it left little lacing in my snifter. The flavor and nose were decidedly muted, but a pleasant blend of malt and hops snuck into the finish. This beer’s chief virtue proved to be its smoothness, which I suspect would make it a fine session ale if I could find it in a 6 pack rather than a bomber.

UPDATED: JUL 11, 2010 Growler thanks to Sean... Pours a mostly amber red with caramel malt brownish ones with a bin soapy white head... Piney and soapy aroma, still fresh and a nice change of pace... Flavors don’t deviate much from the nose. Soft bitter finish and not too aggressive. Softer mouthfeel and carbonation overall. a nice surprise to say the least.
