From the can. Pretty drinkable, but just not that exciting. Considering it was brewed as a session ale for an outdoor summer arts festival it’s probably about right, but hard to get excited about. Pours about right for an amber- slightly cloudy, almost copper. Decent, thick white head and lacing. Taste is on the malty side- toffee, caramel, earthy. Drinks smooth with some balance/ citrus/ acid from hops but definitely on malty side. Finishes smooth. Average and not that interesting, but totally drinkable.

12oz can, thanks to Alicia M for sharing! Sticker-on-can. Amber-red color. Half hazy, with fine particles suspended in the body. Thin off-white head, leaving decent bits of lace. Nice toasty and caramel malt. Lightly spicy. Moderate bitter taste, light sweet. Good hop balance to this, mild earthiness. Medium body. Smooth, kind of crisp lighter carbonation with a dry finish. Pretty nice amber ale -- good bitter balance to this.

Draft to taster. Looks solid; a slightly cloudy Algerian orange with off-white head that steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells mildly hoppy with a touch of grain and caramel. Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel. Not bad.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle--pours a bright, boxcar red with a medium and good lacing. Aroma was light on the nose and mostly medium, roasted malts. Taste was metallic until the brew warmed and then some toffee was noted. A slight touch of bitterness on the finish. I was disappointed, I remember it better before. Appalachian Vinter.

22 oz. bottle via NC trade. Thanks, John! Pours a clear amber on the lighter end of the spectrum with a small off-white head. A later pour was cloudy from sediment in the bottom. The aroma is earthy, leafy, toasty, and nutty; good balance. The flavor brings the same four primary characteristics. Hops are present, very leafy and earthy, with some toasty and amber malts. Light-bodied, with a clean, earthy mouthfeel that finishes toasty and has moderate carbonation. Really nicely done.

Reddish brown with lacy white head. Earthy aroma. Light body, dry finish. Not bitter, not sweet, ends up being a nice palate cleanser. Based on the ratings I had low expectations, but this is quite nice, and very unique.

Comes out of the tap a transparent mahogany with a thick, fine-bubbled light tan head. Strong, malty aroma has fruity and subtle hoppy undertones. Satisfying malty flavor has hints of caramel and cloves. Texture is fairly fizzy, if thin. If not outstanding, still worth ordering a crater.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Consumed at the May 2011 LEAF Festival, about 1 mile from the brewery.
A dark, slightly hazy amber color with a small head that had very good retention. It smelled mainly of lightly toasted malt. Has a rich toasted malt flavor with a nice touch of hops. Crisp with excellent (moderate) carbonation. A medium bodied and smooth ale.
O- An excellent amber ale, with more hop balance and less caramel malt sweetness than average.
