4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 MosesMendoza (30) - South Carolina, USA - APR 20, 2010
On tap in plastic glasses from PBC at the Asheville Earth Day Festival. This beer is near perfect without going overboard with a wow or in your face flavor. Instead rich orange/amber color, fresh grassy hops, enough malt body to balance and add some richness. Really solid beer.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 bubbleflubber (1206) - Asheville, North Carolina, USA - APR 17, 2010
Nice orange-amber pour with a small wispy head that diminishes to ring lace. The nose is of freshly mowed grass and some cherry-citrus notes. The flavors are of biscuit malt, lightly peppering hops, some mild caramel, and just a slight hint of tannic acid. Easily drinkable, it lacks complexity of substance on the palate, with a medium-light mouthfeel. The best aspect of the brew is the lingering grassy hop bitters. All-in-all, a decent pale ale from a great up-and-coming brewer, but not quite yet to the point of pushing it to the next tier.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 Gmku (275) - Asheville, North Carolina, USA - APR 7, 2010
A serviceable IPA, and bonus points for being tasty while also going organic (I sometimes find organic beers to be lacking). But nothing that really stands out for me, and sometimes a little thin in the flavor department. But not bad.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 chriso (7062) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - FEB 18, 2010
On tap at Barleys, Asheville NC, 6 July 2006. Hazy orange/gold colour. Decent balance between grassy hops and biscuity malt. Smooth and easy drinking. But nothing really stood out. As with many UK cask bitters I have drunk the overall experience is satisfying but the wow factor is lacking. This is not intended as a criticism. It does what it does (and presumably intends to do) - provides a straightforward, enjoyable drinking experience - pretty well without hitting the high notes.
4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 BrewNinja (8) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - FEB 10, 2010 does not count
Fantastic pale ale. Reminds me of Sierra...one of my favorites and a ’classic’. Great balance between the malt, hops and alcohol. Anytime I’m near Asheville...sign me up. I could drink these all night

On tap at First West Pizza in Hendersonville. Pours a hazy amber. A nice dose of toasted malt with a piney hop finish.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Elwood (1834) - Between a rock and a hard place, Virginia, USA - AUG 31, 2009
Serving: 22 oz. bottle.
Appearance: Hazy amber orange with a thin, white head.
Aroma: A somewhat light nose consisting of doughy malt and herbal hops. Some earthiness in there too.
Taste: Bready, doughy malt, some toasted notes, grassy hops provide a solid bitterness.
Palate: Medium carbonation with a medium-light mouthfeel. Long, bitter finish.
Overall: A very enjoyable APA that is worth trying.
Rebuy: Yes. This is a good local brew if you happen to be in the area.
