Riccardi50 (13), Montreat, North Carolina, USA May 4, 2008 Very nice color and the flavors just explode in your mouth. Its a must on tap. The bottle doesn’t do it justice. LegalizeLSD (5), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA does not count Nov 5, 2006 Draught from the brewery in Black Mountain, NC. this is the best organic brew i’ve ever had, and one of my favorite porters. look out for their Vortex Triple IPA which will hopefully be recognized by RateBeer.com soon. Ibrew2or3 (1685), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA Feb 14, 2008 This is the fifth growler Degarth opened out of seven he brought back from his trip. Thanks buddy. Pours deep brown with amber edges and thin tan head. Nice full aroma well above average for the style with burnt malts and molasses mixed with earthiness. I also get some licorice and mild malt roastiness. The flavor is like the aroma with tasty bold notes of burnt malts, roasty malts and molasses. Nice distinct flavors that don’t really come together but the flavor experience is actually enhanced with this distinctiveness. Nice sessionable brew that ends a bit thin. Leaves toasty-roasty-burnt notes into the after taste. Quake1028 (627), Tampa, Florida, USA Feb 18, 2008 Growler courtesy of the man, the myth, the legend, Degarth. Well, the man part is true, I guess. Pours out a very dark brown or black body, completely opaque. One finger thick tan head. Decent retention. Nose of roasted beans and malts, coffee grounds, bittersweet chocolate and some lactic bitterness. Flavor profile is very similar, heavy on the roasted/charred notes, with a sweet backing from the chocolate and lactic notes. Slightly thin, even for a porter, but doesn’t detract too much. Finish is medium length, bitter folding into sweet, and then roasty notes that carry through. Great porter. kramer (1866), sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 23, 2008 growler, via Jmichael. Pours a clear mahogany brown with a one finger foamy beige head with decent retention. Some spotty lacing remained. The nose is heavy chocolate malt with some lighter roast, nuttiness, and coffee. Light leafy hops lingering in the background. The flavor is nice dry roasted and chocolate malts with a little husky graininess and a moderately bitter finish. Very well rounded flavor. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a somewhat watery texture and moderate fizzy prickly carbonation. Overall, this was a pretty damn solid Porter. Nothing earth shaking, but it didn’t disappoint. If this meets the critera for being an "organic beer" it’s the best organic I’ve ever had.
