DrBayern (951), Morehead City, North Carolina, USA May 14, 2008 22 oz. bottle on 5/14/08, purchased at the brewery. Big bubbly, foamy, white head collapses quickly into the clear, yellow gold body, leaving a thin bubbly layer and so-so lace. Light fruity aroma with hints of lemon and honey. Medium body, a palate cleansing, champagne like effervescence, and a dry palate measure up well. Background of gently fruity sweetness and distant grainy malt gives way to a soft peppery bite at the finish. Alcohol well hidden throughout. Very respectable tripel, nicely balanced, and refreshing.
emacgee (1052), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Sep 4, 2008 Pours a pale translucent gold. The head is one finger frothy and white. The nose was sweet, phenolic, sugary, some mothballs. The flavor was sweet, had a strange mothball flavor, phenolic. .
rkuhnel (1100), Eureka, California, USA Sep 1, 2008 Updated: Sep 2, 2008Thanks to Shaun and Angie for bringing this all the way from North Carolina. This corked and caged 750 mil bottle opened with a satisfying pop, and poured a cloudy deep and rich golden to orange hue and raised a huge off-white head that looked like whipped cream in the Duvel glass and simply did not want to go away. I let it sit so it could warm a little more, and if finally settled down after about 5 minutes and left big chunks of lacing. This may be one the the thickest and longest lasting heads I have ever seen. The nose was complex consisting of aromas of ripe fruit,, citrus, and some yeast. Mouthfeel is a bit lively and carbonated which may explain the huge head. Flavor are again of fruits, and there are touches of apricot, orange, grapefruit, and coriander. Finish is slightly sweet and it is good to the last drop. A very nice tripel. hopscotch (4477), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Aug 28, 2008 Bottle… Murky, straw-colored ale with a mid-sized, wispy, white head. Great retention. Metallic, yeasty aroma with underlying coriander and banana. Full-bodied with moderate carbonation. Sweet pale malts and white bread with a spicy, coriander note. Finishes sweet, breadsy and lightly spicy. Bottle shared by Beerlando! SSSteve (1523), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Aug 25, 2008 june 2008. a hazy gold pour with a crazy amount of bubbles under a medium sized creamy white head. fruity with pineapple, apple, vanilla, and assorted tropical fruits with yeast and some spice(coriander?) in aroma. fruity flavor of cherry, peach, and red apple. dry, with moderate carbonated palate. a unique tripel with red apple notes and less of the marshmallowy yeasty flavors i am used to. this brewery has a lot of potential and should branch its distribution soon. Beerlando (1269), Orlando, Florida, USA Aug 25, 2008 March 2008 batch. The pour is a hazy, glowing, golden-tangerine color. A foamy, off-white head leaves soapy lacing to drip back down the glass. Aromas include bright citrus esters, spicy orange peel and coriander, with pervasive notes of Belgian yeast and light cream. Flavors continue the theme, bready and yeasty throughout, with exuberant citrus notes and peppery spice. Moderate in body and slightly overcarbonated, the mouthfeel is slightly syrupy but avoiding cloyingness. Overall, this is a pretty decent representation of the style, but isn’t special. I’ve never been one to really get excited about tripels, and this one is no exception.
