4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Really nice opaque black pour with a deep 4-finger chocolate head that leaves a thick cap and generous chunky lace. The nose is of roasted dark chocolates, leaves the room smelling of a wonderful coffee house. Flavors are malty, semi-sweet, with roasts coming through a lavish dark chocolate, tons of coffee beans and freshly-roasted coffee. The finish closes with just a hint of roasted cherry.... and lots of coffee bean. The body is smooth and semi-creamy, providing an easy quaff to the palate, and has a silky body that is excellent. This one is spot on for java lovers, and is a gorgeous winter evening offering on this occasion. Just great, really.

3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bomber thanks to crajun. Pours pitch black with a huge foamy head that fades slowly and leaves nice lacing. Aroma is fresh coffee beans with some light chocolate. Taste has a very nice fresh coffee taste but there’s an odd metalic taste too. Finishes very bitter and dry. Great aroma but the taste is off.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bomber shared. Pours dark brown with mocha colored head. Big coffee and roasted malt nose, just want to spend time smelling this one. If you like coffee you will like this beer. The flavor starts off with lots of roasted malts and then finishes strong with the coffee as it ends. Finsihes dry. Excellent coffee stout.

2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
From 22oz bottle.
Pours almost black with minimal head. Aroma more like cold coffee than beer (not too out of line for a coffee stout, I suppose). Tastes of coffee infused beer, but not with the delightful combination of flavors a good coffee stout will have.
I'd have to say this one is a disappointment.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle. Pours a near black color with a small tan head that disappears quite quickly. Nose is dark and roasty with coffee being quite forward on this beer; however, I get a little bit of dark fruit coming through subtly underneath. Taste has a lot of coffee in there with just a hint at some sourness on the back end. Nice drink.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Poured into a pint glass out of a 22oz bomber.
Pours pitch black with a one finger dark tan head. Very good head retention with ok lacing.
Aroma is all about the coffee. Lots of medium roast coffee with hints of dark chocolate and dark roasted malt. Some caramel in there too. It is really hard to get past the coffee, though, but it is inviting.
The taste is more and more coffee. Some milk chocolate and caramel/toffee. Really the perfect blend of coffee and chocolate with no one character being too overpowering. Bitterness is very light but this beer is not too sweet either so it balances out nicely.
Overall, a very well done beer from Pisgah. Wish I would have picked up more than one.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle at the JPBP Gathering 2013: Basically opaque with lasting creamy tan head. The aroma has notes of coffee, roast, chocolate, caramel., plum, resin and pine needles. The taste is a lovely blend of bittering hops and bitter coffee balanced by sweet chocolate and caramel malts. Earthy and lightly charred as well. The mouth feel is lush and oily but not too heavy, slightly ashy on the finish. Nom Nom!!! I liked this one a lot.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Valdez Stout on tap at the brewery (from notes). This has more coffee than malt; excellent sweet bitter balance. The body is a tad over carbonated but smooth. Exceptionally durable beige head.
Rather like a strong Kona.Pipeline Porter.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle shared on the RBWG 2013 bus - I think I can thank the Turd for this one? Pours oily black-brown with a creamy tan head. Rich coffee aroma, some dark fruits. Medium sweet flavor with rich coffee and moderate earthy bitterness. Very good balance. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly roasty to finish, some dark toast, great coffee character. I like it a lot.
