COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The much awaited release of Pisgah's Vortex series has begun. The first offering is a triple IPA weighing in @ 10.8% and 133 IBU. This beer is packed with Chinook and Nugget hops throughout the boil. The refined bitterness within is the trademark our use of whole hop flowers and the aroma is due to 1# of dry hops per barrel for a number of loving weeks. Treat youself with caution!

Bottle at the 2010 March Metro Detroit tasting. Poured a very cloudy gold with and amber hue and minimal head. Aroma had notes of hops, mainly pine with an undertone of sweet grains. Flavor had more earthy hops with the just a slight undertone of grains and hay.

Bottle from Bruisní Ales in Asheville in May 2009. Rich amber pour with foamy off white head. Aroma of citrus and hops with light sugary smell, too. Same flavors, with hops and alcohol strong, especially as it wears down. Somewhat bitter aftertaste, but overall pretty nice.

drowland (6037) - Valdosta, Georgia, USA - APR 7, 2010
Sampled at RBWG 2010. A nice orange pour with a good off-white head. The aroma is soapy hotness with some oxidized sweetness. The flavor is extremely bitter but not necessarily hoppy, almost more like an old ale thatís pretty hoppy.

In short: A brutal sugary grapefruity IIPA. An acceptable sipper, no more.
How: Bottle 22oz. Age unknown but consumed immediately upon reception. Graciously sent to me by ygtbsm94, thanks a lot Brad.
The look: Cloudy dark orange body topped by a large beige head
In long: Nose of caramel and grapefruits. Taste is more of the same. A lot of crunchy sugary caramel, biting grapefruity bitterness, brown sugar, alcohol apparent. After-taste has more brown sugar than anything else. Way too much brown sugar overall, this beer is not well balanced. Donít know if they brewed it more than once but my bottle label clearly said 9.8% and not 10.8% as listed here, but Iím not gonna complain about a 1% mistake, because if I do Iíll kill my 2008-2009 financial advisor.

bottle thanks to bu11zeye, orange amber color with good foam, aroma of hoppy malt, flavor has a good caramel malty hoppiness, finish is a little too bitter metallic, I did come back to this later

Malty sweetness and earth on the nose. Mildly funky with notes of feet, and b.o. Not the best nose. Pours hazy copper with an explosive rising head. Obviously overcarbonated. Sweet caramel, toast, toffee, feet, some earthy bitterness. Dirty and dusty. Odd.

Bottle. Pours an orange body with a white head. Strong astringent hop aroma with a paper citrus character and a herbal earthiness. Very soapy this is likely the victim of heat or light. Eh.

Bomber to snifter (shared with jmborggren, his wife, and the Mrs.; thanks John!). Looks good; a hazy amberish orange with off-white lacing. Smells solid; bitter hops with a semi-sweet malty backbone. Tastes like it smells with a solid mouthfeel. Good beer.

Draft at Pisgah during RBWG. Pours a slightly hazy orange amber color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have orange citrus, pine resin, some sweet caramel malts, sticky at times, hints of spicy hops. Does show the abv a bit.

Sampled at GABF on 9/16/2010. This Imperial IPA pours a medium orange gold color. Medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is citrusy and fruity. A medium bodied Imperial IPA. The malts are fruity and sweet. The hops are citrusy and piney. Nice balance. Good carbonation. Big hop bit at the finish. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.
