COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The much awaited release of Pisgah's Vortex series has begun. The first offering is a triple IPA weighing in @ 10.8% and 133 IBU. This beer is packed with Chinook and Nugget hops throughout the boil. The refined bitterness within is the trademark our use of whole hop flowers and the aroma is due to 1# of dry hops per barrel for a number of loving weeks. Treat youself with caution!

Rating #1100! Bottle opened on the bus ride from Tampa Bay Brewing Co. to Dunedin Brewing Co. Pours clear orange color with off white head. Grapefruit hops aroma. Nice hop bitterness balance well wth caramel malts. Medium body with average carbonation with a sticky mouthfeel. Thanks to KP for sharing this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TlI__uOBONo&fea

Reviewed from notes. Pours a nice amber-brown color with a pretty good head and a slight amount of lacing. The nose is really nice with some citrus and pine and with that comes some caramel and sweetness. The taste is light hops with some notes of dark fruit and sugar. Mouthfeel is pretty good with a nice balance between body and booze. Drinks quite well and is a nicely done beer. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 11-03-2010

Beautiful golden amber color on the pour with about an inch of head. On the nose you get hops, a bit of citrus and a nice floral aroma that every double ipa should have. On your palate you have hops, citrus and a bitter but crisp finish to it. Great lacing of the glass and stays around on the palate just like it should.

Nice earthy and doughy aroma. Nice lacing on an amber colored beer with a small white head. This one packs a punch. Sharp bitterness with a slight fruityness. Great beer. Get this one if you have the chance.

Pours a hazy amber orange from the bomber with fluffy white cap and good lacing. Aromas of citrus and earthy hops, hints of sweet toffee malts, and alcohol. Taste is super bitter, but kind of like an aged IPA moving towards a barley wine. Triple pale ale, hmmmm, I guess that equates to a DIPA. It’s alright, but nothing worth really seeking out.

Nice Impy IPA. Pours amber-orangish into the glass, with a diminished eggshell cap that reduces, leaving thick solid lacing. The nose has some strawberries and floral notes. Solid malt backbone, a bit sweet but of substance, holds its own as the 133 IBU’s coat the tongue. The finish also integrates a touch of fusel oils, providing a nice sting bite. Oily palate and full-bodied, has a silky texture that slides down the gullet ok. Definitely an aperitif, this isn’t one you’ll want to want to chug. Best offering from Pisgah so far on my beer travels.

Draught. This pours a rich, cloudy red with a level tan head. It seems a bit darker than the average IIPA, though I guess this is one of those supposed triple IPA’s. The aroma is plenty tangy with grapefruit and pine and a fruitier sweet aroma like apples and berries. The mouthfeel is pretty par for the beer course, providing a medium level of viscosity. The hops are right up front with an initial blast of non-descript acidity which fades rather rapidly to a woody taste like bark. All around, more floral, fruity notes comprise the flavor profile along with touches of acidic tones that resemble pineapple. The finish leaves a hint of toffee and wood on the palate. I’ve noticed a particular floral/berry flavor in most of Pisgah’s hoppier brews and this one includes it as well. It’s a pleasing sensation that works well with this style. I went downstairs to get the official description and I’m very surprised to see this listed as 133 IBU’s and 10.8% ABV. I’d never guess that. This makes a fine sipper, but it certainly does not pack the depth or intensity I’d look for in the style.

Big candied fruit and vegetables (weird, I know) aroma. Medium sweet with a bit of a phenolic or plastic-y edge to the hop flavor that isn’t really unpleasant.

Bomber via a trade from Keith. Pours a nice deep orange/red with a huge, puffy off-white head. Aroma is some caramel mat balanced nicely with thyme, pot (seriously), and lots of other herbal qualities. Begins heavy on the caramel malt in the mouth, followed by a pleasant bittering sensation. Too heavy on the malt in my eyes, but the balance is there and it’s kind of nice. Interesting contrast from the malt to the fizzy, bitter hops that is unusually extreme.

Draft at barleys asheville. Pours a nice copper gold with some haze. Creamy offwhite one finger head. The nose is very citrusy, malty, sweet background, mildly spicy, less upfront aroma when compared to flavor, some raw mushroom. The flavor is spicy, grapefruit rind, mango, mild phenol, citrusy, sweet malt. Nice spicy grapefruit rind bitterness.
