22oz plucked from the cellar. Pours a nice dark hue with decently dark lacing. Dry cocoa and big malts on the nose, maybe some vanilla, but its faint. The stout was a bit drier than I thought, likening it more to the brooklyn bcs, but with more of a full flavored palate. well balanced for the higher alc %. Would love to age this one longer than the 6 months I had it for.

Bottle shared at the 4th release of CDC. Poured a really good looking viscous black body underneath a large foamy brown head. Aroma of sweet cheap milk chocolate, honey, molasses and candle wax. Full mouthfeel with strong carbonation some alcohol heat and a syrupy finish. Burnt flavor with notes of honey, dark chocolate, toast and molasses. This one was ho-hum, not bad but not great either.

Bottle. Pours out black with a moderate tan head. The aroma is of roast, cocoa and some slight alcohol. Taste is complex, with a very nice smooth creamy mouthfeel, chocolate, roasted malts, light coffee. Alcohol content is very well hidden, never would have guessed it was on the upside of 11%.

On tap at the brewery. Black pour with a thin khaki head. Milk chocolate aroma, roasted malt, and booze. Coffee, chocolate, and alcohol flavor. Very good.

Bomber. Pitch black brew that lets no light through. Dark caramel colored head. I thought this was a really well-done Imp Stout with a bold aroma and body, lots of chocolate and sweetness. The alcohol is well hidden. It is quite aggressive and certainly a slow sipping beer.

20100515 Sampled at PilsnerPeter’s 2nd Annual Spring Gathering. I believe this was last one I bothered trying to take notes on at the tasting, as the day had indeed been filled with many hugely strong beers. Tastings lately seem to get that way more often than not, and it’s just too much. It’s easy to see where the complaints come from. Anyway, this one was another fine imperial stout, nothing remarkable. Big and fruity with prune, molasses, date cake, and some baked beans notes. Lots of alcohol. Lots of lingering sticky sugar on the lips.

A-thinner bubbly head that is somewhat creamy and tan in color. the beer is pitch black in color. S-light nose, roasted malts up front, hints of sweet fruit, plum and figs. notes of a musky earth and funk, mushroom like. T-lightly roasted up front, dark chocolate lies in the middle, slightly bitter coffee, big sweetness takes over. lots of plums and cherries with notes of raisins. M-medium to full body, extremely smooth but the carbonation is low and the back end falls off a little. D-its a little sweet and the taste has a light funkiness that seems to be a little off. smooth but not heavy, decent but not great.

Appearance: Not as murky black as I expected....more of a dark brown with cola darkness swirling within. 1 finger brown mocha crown that shows little retention but some lace. Smell: Loads of bourbon / dark chocolate goodness complimenting some deeply roasted malt. Taste: I wish it tasted more like the nose. Has a dark chocolate covered cherry like fruit quality but I wish the fruit was toned down and the chocolate heightened. Mouthfeel: Slightly thick but just shy of full bodied in my opinion. Decent amount of carbonation. Drinkability: High abv, slightly thick, and the flavor doesn’t work well for me so I’m gonna give it a low mark. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 09-12-2009
