3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Dickinsonbeer (5077) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - APR 1, 2009
CPLYFO 09. Shared by Fogdog. Pours a deep woody amber with a thick lasting foamy head. Aroma is very sweet, sugary, brown sugar, dates, ok acrid roast, light smoke and some chocolate. Flavor is also on the sweet side with only hints of roast and coffee, light nutty chocolate, fruity, slight oxidation, and syrupy sweet caramel and toffee malts.

My Million Beer March Tasting. Sample from a bottle thanks to nearbeer. Pitch black with a thin tan head. Burnt coffee, berry aroma. Taste is solid sweet roast malt, more berries, finishes with a chocolate and caramel sweetness.

Courtesy fogdog. Pours an extremely dark chocolate mahogany color, almost black. A thick, lasting, mocha colored head leaves thin, jagged lines of lacing on the glass. The nose is rich and fudgy, with plenty of big chocolate and dark caramel notes. Falling on the sweeter side, the roast component isn’t really big, but you do pick up hints of coffee to go along with a light waft of earthen hops. Flavors are simple, sweet and rich, with chocolate fudge showing as the dominant component. Hints of vanilla and mild dark fruit lurk in the background, while subtle roast and hop notes offer a little balance. Round and creamy, with even keeled carbonation, the mouthfeel is quite nice. Very good brew overall, though I do prefer a little more roastiness than this sweet RIS delivers.

Sample at O-town throwdown ’09 courtesy of fogdog.
Pours black with beige head, nice golden lacing.
Aroma has ample notes of roastedmalts and coffee.
Taste, lots of roasted malty, good presence of coffee/mocha with a sweet butterscotch like mouthfeel that reminded me a lot of the goodness of ST creme brulee.
No way to tell this was a 11.7% beer.

Sampled at C&P Otown Throwdown, big thanks to whoever brought this! Pours black with a thin tan head. Huge coffee aroma with a little chocolate and roasted grain. Taste is a little sweeter, with coffee, chocolate and vanilla and a great body. Quality brew.

Bottle shared by strelnikov at a tasting. Thanks! Pours a dark black with short lived light tan head. Smell is sugary sweet chocolate and rich cake like fudginess. Taste is also quite sweet without much bittering hops or dark roastiness, but for a sweeter imperial stout it is still quite good. Rich body and medium carbonation and no sign of the 11.7% alcohol which was nice. I can’t get over how much this reminded me of the ’08 Darkness. Enjoyable stuff.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Sammy (5888) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 14, 2009
Fresh from Bruisin’ Ales. Pours black and some white head. Aroma is pleasant roasty and malty. Taste is very sugary, this is like a milk stout, a sweet stout only somewhat better. I managed to drink the bomber, it is drinkable and pleasant enough. Some chocolate and one sip seemed coffee. This is sugar cup of coffee, and how many cups can I drink?
