Bomber. Pours midnight black with a 2 finger tan head that leaves decent lacing. The nose is chocolate, burnt malt and dark fruits. The taste is chocolate, molasses, dark fruits and brown sugar. Medium mouthfeel. Too sweet for me, but the 11.5% ABV is hidden as a result. An ok RIS, but did not live up to the hype for me.

22. Thanks, SuzyGreenberg! Pours translucent blackish brown with a thin tan head. The leadoff flavor in the aroma is prunes, then the chocolate and coffee catch up. Medium-full body. Prune, brown sugar, coffee and burnt fruitcake taste.

Sampled at the BA Nashville Tasting. Pours dark black with a dark tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, alcohol, and molasses. Medium bodied with a slick texture. Flavor of light molasses, peat, tobacco, and coffee with a moderate amount of bitterness. There is a good amount of residual sweetness. . Finish has some slight yeast and dustiness. Could use more bitterness for me.

Draft @ the brewery. Pours black with a dark tan head. Nose is roasty, chocolate, a phenolic smokey aroma, coffee. Flavor is roast, chocolate, some fruity notes, gives a slight nutty impression--much like Reese’s Pieces, ends with a nice bitterness. Medium carbonation, still a fairly heavy mouthfeel.

Thanks to Bobby91w for the bottle! Pours black, with a surprisingly thick tan head that leaves minimal (if any) lacing. The aroma has mild sweet fruits, thick, lightly roasted malts, slightly tinny with some malted chocolate (think Whoppers). The flavor is better, though it really brings to mind a bizarre memory for me - strong coffee with too much brown sugar added. Not sure if there’s some residual sugar lingering in here, but it’s a bit overpoweringly sweet. Has some port wine notes to vary the flavor, and while it doesn’t seem like 11.7%, the alcohol makes its presence known. Oily / soapy mouthfeel - more hops would have done this one well.

Bottle from 1/09. Pour is dark brown with tan head, some soapy lace. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, heavy malt, alcohol, fruit. Taste is same, with the heavy sweetness really dominating. Finish is sweet and a little warming. Fruit is also a little more present in taste than in aroma. Mouth is sticky and coating. A little on the bitter side. Overall, a decent imperial stout.
