CaptainCougar (4633), Rockville, Maryland, USA Nov 18, 2007 Bottle sampled on 6/30/07: Pours a mostly opaque with dark mahogany edges and a thin wispy-lacing light tan head. Has a big, sweet dark caramel and roasted malty nose with some dark chocolate. Body starts fairly full and earthy caramely sweet with good plum complexity and some bittersweet dark chocolate toward a smooth, balanced mildly warming finish. A nice imperial stout. hopdog (4552), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 26, 2007 22oz bottle acquired in trade with jimbowoods (thanks!). Poured a dark black color with an averaged sized tan head. Aromas of chocolate, roast, vanilla, coffee, and caramel. Tastes of caramel, chocolate, roast, some dark fruits, and coffee. hopscotch (4460), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Jul 30, 2007 Bottle… O-Town Throwdown Part Deux… Pitch black ale with a small, creamy, beige head. The aroma is a rich, malty blend of chocolate, caramel and toffee with a good dose of diacetyl. The flavor leans on the burnt, bitter side of balance. Lots of dark, unsweetened chocolate and caramel with a waft of campfire smoke and a hint of oxidation. Full-bodied and silky with lively carbonation. Sweet, warming finish. Thank you, DragonStout and jayg, for sharing the bottle! DocLock (4085), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 9, 2007 Bottle from Capone’s. Pours deep black, but some deep brown hues are noted through light. The head is tan, stays for a while, then goes away and doesn’t really return with every repour. The aroma is heavy dark patent malt, huge chocolate syrup, some figgy fruit, and mild coffee wafts. The palate is on the heavy side, oily, complex, with flavors of dark malt, mild coffee, and gigantic chocolate syrup ntes, making this one somewhat sweet, but in a good way. As it warms, the alcohol becomes a little bit apparent, but that serves to give it a bit of a bourbon character late, while never losing the chocolate syrup flavor. The chocolate predominates the taste, and the beer evolves somewhat as it warms, gett5ing a bit less sweet. This one was very enjoyable.
