Bottle from Halles St-Jean. Thanks Julie for the birthday gift. Aroma: dark chocolate, coffee, caramel with a smoked background. A tad earthy. App : pitch black with small brown head. Taste and palate : medium body, smooth but a tad fizzy, medium sweetness, finish is smokey and slightly bitter. Overall : good, not too smokey or bitter. Would like the carbonation to be different so it’s smother. A good porter..

Pours an entirely opaque black robe topped by about two fingers of toffee/moka creamy head showing good lacing yet shrinking to a porous layer. The nose is pure espresso with notes of cask wood, toasted nuts and a touch of smoke (hickory). As the brew warms up you even get some mint way in the back. On the tongue, you get this strong coffee flavour paired with bittersweet dark chocolate which explodes into an incredibly light yet oily mouthfeel. This brew has a lot in common wth a Russian Imperail Stout but is sweeter and a bit more delicate. I would pair this beer with smoked meat, strong cheddar and chorizo. Cheers!

This is decent stuff, and pretty much exactly as advertised. Coffee and chocolate, slightly dry finish. The nose is a little weak, and the carbonation a little soft for my liking but this is serviceable stuff.
