Pours like used motor oil. This used motor oil is then topped by a bubbly head that settles down into a nice brownish ring. It smells a bit ash-y, roasty with a slight hint of the spirits that used to live in these barrels that they used. Taste is nice, with again some roasted malt induced bitterness and not that much sugar (it ends up quite dry). Hops are in the background but still a good part of the experience too. Flavors of whiskey then appear only to leave your chest warm and satisfied. Alcohol is still very well hidden, don’t you worry about that. Happy New Year, people of Ratebeer!

(500ml 2014 bottle from the lovely phyllomedusa) Pours black with a small dense whitish head and lace. Aroma of chocolate coloured coffee beans, vanilla, cold coffee, light caramel, some whiskey and light char. Flavour is lightly sweet coffee and dark chocolate, vanilla, toasted wood, leather, moderate roast. Finish is moderately bitter with roast, oak and coffee. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation, no alcohol. The nose on this is a real standout, while the palate backs it up even though it’s a bit light in the mouth for 10%. A very pleasant surprise from Pit-Caribou.

On tap at Festibiere. Velvety black pour with a pretty crema cap. Nose is lots of coffee, chocolate, molasses, some toasted grain. If I could breathe nothing but the smell of this beer for the rest of my life I would die a happy man. Wait, then I couldn’t smell other beers....fuck it, never mind. Taste is sweet, not syrupy per se but....dense; subtly bitter finish with lingering coffee and chocolate. Booze is present but it’s so chill, like the best party guest ever. Top notch stuff.

Bottle - Dark roast and some boozy bourbon notes. Jet brown with a nice rich light brown head. Lots of roast, some bitter chocolate, vanilla and bourbon. Nice, balanced and easy drinking.

Bottle shared by alexsdad06- thanks again, Brad! Really unique shape. I’m not sure I’ve seen a bottle that looks like this before. Pours a cloudy brown color with clear amber edges and a small beige head that settles into a wispy film and ring with a few bubbles. Notes of oak, vanilla, chocolate, booze-soaked raisins, earth, tobacco, light spice, and burnt sugar. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a warming mouthfeel. Not the most graceful barrel treatment, but good nonetheless.

500 ml bottle shared by DrSilverworm. Pours a reddish cola brown color with a small khaki colored head. The aroma and flavor have roasted malts, dark chocolate, dark fruits, oak, some mild coffee character, bitterness to the finish, some underlying sweetness going on as well, decent.

500ml bottle. Big thanks to mathieuc for sending this. Shared with local raters. Dark brown, slight red color. Thin off-white, darker head. Some loose bits of lace. Good dark chocolate, some dark fruit, nuttiness. Hazelnut, touch of coffee. Bigger sweet taste, light to moderate bitter. Good balance though, nothing cloying. Very nice imperial porter. Great one to share.
