3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from Mr Lawrence Wine Merchants, Brockley. Pours a cloudy amber colour with no head whatsoever. Seems a bit flat if truth be told.
Aromas of sour cherries, tangerines, barley, grapefruit. Quite a sour/fruity nose. Flavours of toffee, citrus, slight sourness, vinous, ginger, some herbs. Moderate alcohol burn. Finishes malty and sweet with a warming alcohol feel. Not too bad.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Cask - Fat Cat, Norwich. This ale pours a deceptively passive looking clear amber with a fine but frothy, dome-like white head. Heavenly sweet aromas of toffee apple, brandy, raisins and also a smokey maltiness on the nose. Again, toffee apple comes through in the flavour, also with the brandy and this lends itself to a cool yet warming, spirit-like alcoholic mouthfeel and finish. Thick and coating palate texture with a lasting finish and a mild hoppy contrast. The 10% certainly makes its presence known! One for sipping.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
You actually wonder what stock they used. Oxo is a bit too assertive and I think Continental chicken would have given a lighter colour, so I have decided on Massels vegetable. This, I think is an organic stock jusat like the Pitfield range. Look, it may be our antipodean tastebuds, but I am at one with my Aussie colleagues on being bewildered by all of the crazy flavours. I think I have to blame the yeast, because if everything else is a bit out of whack a damned good ferment should bring a few of the flavours together.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
very cloudy amber. odourwise musk lifesavers, banana, spearmint, and touch of babyshit as in IPA - hardcore! flavours are extremely complex or should i say bewildering cause i've never tasted anything like it. a never-before-tasted combination of gooey caramel, peppery hop, menthol, sourness and wild funk. have to hand it to pitfield, they don't look likely to release a honey porter anytime soon.

Bottle, RBESG Grand Tasting 07. Hazy copper, thin off-white head. Soury malty, some roasted and marzipan. Mouth is quite alcoholic malty smoothness, some winter fruit, yet more alcohol and some vanilla. Quite good. Bit much on the alcohol, but really nice apart from that.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from Quaffs, 2007 vintage. Wow, not what I imagined at all...This is potent stuff. Golden and hazy with a quickly diminishing white head. Nose is yeasty, peppery and vinous, some sweet tropical fruit notes also. Almost like a Belgian Strong Ale, I would have actually said that in a blind tasting. Flavour is sweet with candi sugar, pineapple and a vinous alcohol burn in the finish. Not thick per se but it does coat the mouth, deserving a 4. In all honesty itís not a bad beer, it was just a poor choice to start the evening off with, lol...
