Rich smooth and chocolatey brew, this was probably the best beer I had in Croatia. The flavour was very full and bursting with chocolate and molasses and the balanced finish was very moreish. One to sit and drink. Top stuff. (Draught at Medvedgrad, Zagreb)

I drank this after the mediocre Pšenično Pivo, and it restored my shaken faith in the brewpub. Dark/near black red, with a thick persistant head that left tons of lacing. The aroma was hard to detect, and I got mostly dust and a bit of malt. The taste is really pleasant and full - dried figs, liquorice and chocolate, with no detectable hops .I didn’t note the aftertaste. Good stuff.

Draught at Pivnica Medvedgrad. In my opinion the best of their beers. Surprisingly hoppy aroma with a top layer of grassy hops, under which there are the malty notes - bread, roast and caramel. The dominating aroma elements were the hops and dried plums, especially in the flavour. Light sweet, light bitter. Less dry and more hoppy than a regular schwarzbier. Very tasty!

UPDATED: FEB 25, 2015 Draught at Pivnica Mali Medo, 0.5. Caramel taste, nice black/red appearance with medium foam. Overall taste is not bad it it takes to get used to the bitter taste.

31/08/2010 - 30cl from tap @ Medvedgrad Adzijina

Clear dark red to brown beer (not exactly black). Tick beige rocky head. Aroma is malty, sweet, dried fruits, caramel. MF is a little flat, medium body and somewhat watery texture. Taste is sweet, roasted malts, some red berries. Aftertaste has a little coffee bitterness, caramel and some acidity to keep the beer balanced. Good brew.

Thanks to Marko, I managed to sample the new, bottled version of this beer. Even though Gricka Vjestica is still my beer to go at Medvedgrad, I’m no stranger to this one. Pours dark brown, with aroma of roasted malts and moderate foam. Soft to moderate carbonization. Sweetness and bitterness complement each other well after giving way to coffee/caramel. That said, not a complex beer.
