Bottle in the Polish pub near Holborn with Shack. Very unusual. Dark caramel brown with minimal head, looks like Coke. Very sweet, I was getting molasses and treacle toffee. At first I thought wow this is interesting and different, but the lack of hop or bitterness makes the whole thing a bit sickly, sticky and cloying. Shack struggled to finish his, I wouldn’t have wanted another one.

50 cl bottle. Pours clear and golden deep brown with a golden orange glare with a small off white head. Aroma is toasted malty and light breadish. Sweet, caramelish and sugarish. Overly sweet and sigarish dark malty finish.

Bottle, from an ethnic food store in Hull. Deep chestnut red, thin shortlived off white head and gentle condition. Muted sweetness with low caramel and trace bitter coffee in the nose, sweet and peppery in the mouth, quite fruity with burnt toffee notes and a hint of wortiness. Finish has a dry bitterness and a peppery sweetness lingering.

Dark brown. Medium head. Sweet dunkel aroma with black sugars and lots of toffee. The character is burnt toffee...what is the theme here I wonder? There is clearly some funny bitterness but otherwise the beer is very sweet.
