Growler from the brewery. Heavy on the red wine factor, dark fruit, a little chocolate. Slightly tart mouthfeel. Perfect bitter hop note on the finish. Excellent. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Growler from the brewery. Black with a thick rocky tan head. Aroma is red wine, saison yeast and strawberry jam. Taste follows suit but adds some roasted malt and a little more emphasis on the wine in the finish. Surprisingly rich palate with moderate carbonation. Very good.

12oz pour at the brewery. Pours a clear black with some filmy head. Noise has some toast, some malt, some dried fruit, a little red grape, lightly vegetal. Flavor is similar, malty, toasted bread crust, some dark fruit, plum, raisin. Medium bodied finish. Cool idea.

Growler shared by Terry. Pours clear black with a large, creamy tan head, long retention with good lacing. Aroma is toast, chocolate, and coffee malt with prunes, earthy hops, dates and figs. Flavor is malt forward with spices, dark fruits, medium dark malt, earthy and herbal hops. Full body and medium carbonation.

Opaque black and yummy with a little hop bite. Really good drinking beer. The barrel aging gives a nice added dimension.

Served on-tap at Al’s of Hampden.

A - Pours pitch black with a nice one finger tall off white head, dissipating down to a light film, leaving sticky webs of lace down the sides of the glass.

S - Smells of mild saison funk, light must, wine grapes, oak and dark roasted malt. Nice balance all things considered.

T - Starts off with the saison funk and light must quickly giving way to some grapes, oak wine barrel and lots of dark roasted malts. Finish is really roasty with a bit of funk thrown in, lingering long after the finish. A bit too much roast perhaps.

M - Medium body with moderate carbonation. Smooth, roasty/funky feel from start to finish. Strong roasty note really began to wear me down over the course of the glass.

O - An interesting saison. I liked the addition of the wine barrel aging, I feel like it added another dimension to the mix. It is just a little too roasty for my tastes but still worth a shot.
