3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 orangesol (473) - Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 16, 2012UPDATED: MAR 10, 2013 Served on-tap at Al’s of Hampden
A - Pours ruby red with a small, fizzy one finger tall white head, dissipating down to next to nothing, leaving no lace at all down the glass.
S - Smells of light blueberry tartness, bready wheat, light lactic sourness and some light funk. There is definitely a light yogurt aroma that develops toward the end of the glass. Not as much blueberry as I would like from a sour ale, but as a Berliner I think it is pretty nice.
T - Starts off with some nice light blueberry sweetness quickly giving way to a mild tartness mixed with some light funkiness. Not a ton of fruit flavor in this one but it is there. Finish has some more tartness and a bit more blueberry sweetness but thats about it, it doesn’t linger on the palate for very long.
M - Medium light body with moderate carbonation. The feel is not very sour, more tart than anything, allowing it be fairly easy to consume. Alcohol is not a problem with this one.
O - This beer is clearly marked as a Sour Ale at the shop and every time I have heard them talk about it they have always called it a sour ale, never a Berliner…that being said, once you try the beer you can see where the Berliner tag is coming from. It really does taste like one. It’s a decent beer either way, worth a shot if you get a chance.

On tap at Pizza Boy. Very light body with a good amount of wheat. Blueberry character is pretty light. Just a touch of acidity. I’ll say there are light tannins.

Tap. Pours a beautiful bright pinkish ruby body with a fizzy pink tinged head that fell to a thin film. The nose is bright and full of sharp blueberries with a nice wood accent and just a light hint of vinegar. The flavor is equally bright and sharp with a heavy blueberry flavor that is very dry and biting, especially on the finish. There’s a slight acidity and when combines with the tannins ftom tbe wood, adds to the sharpness as well, like some really bright white wines. Mouthfeel is bone dry with a tannic bite and very fizzy prickly carbonation. I like this, but can only do about a half a glass, the acidity keeps building, and it just forewarns me of heartburn.
0.8 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 2/20 Beerathon (635) - Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 12, 2012
Any time I can sample a sour I do. I hate them, but I keep figuring eventually I’ll change my mind. I still haven’t. This grossed me out. Sorry, just not my thing.

Purplish-red body with a thin off-white collar. Just a few sparse dabs of lacing here and there. Nose is lactic with some blueberry muffin notes, light citric acidity, and light must. Flavor is similar with the blueberry not being particularly intense, but certainly present. Medium to light bodied, mellow carbonation, moderate acidity and tartness. I’d call this a blueberry berliner before I called it a blueberry sour ale.
4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 PhillyCraft (2119) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 14, 2012
Growler fill from Simon, maybe the best beer name ever? Pours purple hued red, not much white head or lacing. Aromas of fresh blueberries, wood, sour dough. Taste is ultra tart blueberries, not that sour, more berliner like, very carbonated, light bodied. Other notes of peach or nectarine and some tropical hibiscus. Taste doesn’t have nearly as much of the blue as the aroma. So drinkable, split with simon before the birds game. "Hey mannn, really tasty, dry dis" (pagoda)
