Hairofthedog (417), San Diego, California, USA Apr 10, 2005 This beer poured a cloudy reddish orange color w/ golden highlights; no head and only slight lacing. The aroma had a slight pine note w/ hints of citrus, flowers and hemp. The flavor had pine and citrus notes w/ a slight light fruit sweetness. The mouthfeel was light w/ good effervescence. JohnC (1747), Mission Viejo, California, USA Mar 19, 2005 this was a very one dimensional pale ale. I think that this was the wrong hop to display. DarkElf (2661), La Jolla, California, USA Mar 1, 2005 (Draft: Pizza Port in Carlsbad, CA) Another Pizza Port beer to showcase a particular variety of hops -- Ahtanum -- and this one doesn’t strike me as too unusual. Hoppy, mildly bitter and not overbearing, but the lightly sweet malt bill is light enough to showcase the hops. The bitterness is a bit sharper in the finish, but even then is still only moderately bitter. Malty, hoppy nose is nicely aromatic and well balanced, I like the smell of this variety of hops. Medium bodied with a clean palate is what you’d expect from a beer like this. Orange golden color and fairly hazy in appearance. Pours a large, creamy, off-white head that settles to a solid film. Delicate lace at the top of the glass, with lots of spotty lace below. So, I like this beer, but the only way I can truly be able to appreciate the nuances of their single hop beers is to do side by side comparisons. This one is mildly bitter and nicely aromatic.
