A decent offering, well worth the money and i’d possibly get it again. Just didn’t knock my socks off. Big,but not bold. Kind of a less than impressive yet tasty barleywine.

Tulip at San Clemente. Hazy dark brown with a one finger oily beige head, BW retention. Lots of toffee and caramel malt in the nose with some raisins and sweaty lemony Cascade hops. I also get the slightest tinge of tobacco. Flavor adds more tobacco and some chocolatey notes, even light cherries and cherry Luden’s. Not getting much in the realm of hops. The caramel and toffee aren’t near as strong, though still present. Bitterness peaked at a 3-4 in the semi-dry finish, light alcohol noted. Big full body with light carbonation. Pretty nice.

On tap at PPSB. Pours ruddy, red/brown with a small, filmy, offwhite head and spider web lace. Smells of sweet, deep, rich malts with caramel and sugar. Tastes big and sugary, malty, sweet. Some dark fruit, some spice, some cereal but mostly big sweetness. Quad like for sure. Full body, good carbonation.

Clear medium brown color/ tan head. Nice pit fruit sweet, mild alcohol aromas. Smooth medium body. Rich raison, toffee, pit fruit sweet flavors, drying boozy finish. good.

UPDATED: DEC 31, 2009 1/2 pint on the fly at san Clemente locale with D at my side. Malty, strong, like angels share without the barrels. Very good.

On tap at Pizza Port San Clemente. Dark brown with almost no head. Aroma-honey, hay, caramel. Taste- molasses, barley, earthy, hops in the finish, warm. Pretty nice.

Tap at Strong Ale 2009. Pours dark amber with a tan head. Nose is hoppy and sweet. Taste is hopped up and has a good barleywine.

On tap at SD Strong Ale Fest 09. Red/brown pour. Caramel, sweet malt, some dark fruit, and nuts. Decent barleywine.
