wetherel (994), Carlsbad, California, USA Oct 13, 2007 This 10 year old 1997 rare gem was brought by deftim13. Thanks Tim! Tasted at Churchill’s with Ivan, Tim, Aaron, and Dave. Tim says this was Tomme’s first imperial stout. Corked and capped in a green bottle with no label. Hand bottled and CO2 purged I presume. No carbonation, no head. Deep black color. Lots of cardboard oxidation. Super duper mellowed flavor from the age. Alchohol is completely hidden. I would guess it is a 6-7% beer and not 12%. (Tim says it’s 12%, not the 10% listed on RB) No sourness, no spoilage. Medium body. Crosling (1637), Loveland, Colorado, USA Oct 4, 2004 Sampled at the Pre-GABF babblefest. 1998 Edition.
This was aged in oak.
Black.
Subtle for its style in it nose. Dry, with notes of chalk, chocolate and wood.
Lovely, simply just lovely. Melded deep chocolate flavor with other notes of coffee, black licorice, wood, cocoa, tobacco and anise. Well hidden alcohol. Full body. Incredible. 21iceman40 (1669), north little rock, Arkansas, USA Feb 1, 2003 Updated: Mar 8, 2003I really enjoyed this one as one of my fav imperials. Great deep choc-cof flavors. Not alot of head, but enough. This is actually this best beer they have at the liars club at this point in time.
