Poured up on tap at the Carlsbad Pizza Port and suggested by peteinSD, great suggestion Pete! Pours copper with off white head. The aroma is nice and spicy and blends with notes of tangelo, grapefruit and grassy resiny hop notes. Nice! The taste is similar with chewy rich, and man do I love big spicy hoppiness, large ripe grapefruitiness, tangelo and then resiny bitter hoppiness to midway. It rides this way into the finish where I marvel in the rich, malt sweetened, chewy hop after glow. Damn!

On tap at Pizza Port Carlsbad. Pours a very dark orange color and topped by a small, off white head of foam that settles quickly to a thin film. The aroma shows notes of tropical fruit sweetness, bitter orange and grapefruit hops, and a huge base of sweet and buttery caramel malt. The flavor follows with the orange citrus and tropical fruits coming through and the sweet and buttery caramel malts that seems to overpower the hops. The grapefruit hops add a touch of bitterness on the back end. Medium to full bodied with good carbonation and a bitter sweet finish. Nice ipa, but maybe a touch too sweet for me.

doubleo (1433) - San Diego, California, USA - APR 10, 2010
Pours hazy, dark copper with a medium sized white head and good lace. Smells sweet overall with slight red fruit scents with a good dose of resiny hops as well. Tastes sweet and caramelly right up front with a building, big, thick bitterness. Earthy and resiny hops. Big and syrupy sweet overall. Full body, good carbonation. Eh, ok.

Pours a slightly hazy orange, with white head. Caramel malt, buttery sweetness, citrus, grapefruit, bitter hops, and a hint of tropical fruit. Too much on the sweet side to be a great double IPA, but still good.

papajohn (1249) - San Diego (Mira Mesa), California, USA - MAR 29, 2010
On tap@Port Carlsbad: Medium amber color with a small off-white head. Aroma is buttery caramel and ripe fruit. Flavor starts rather caramel sweet followed by lots of citrus and a moderately bitter grapefruit finish that lingers. Full body is creamy with moderate carbonation.

On tap at Carlsbad. Clear medium orange with a small light beige head, fading to a film within a couple minutes. Lots of tropical fruit hops in the nose with moderate sweet, almost buttery caramel malts. Flavor is a fair amount sweeter, reminding me a lot of @_______-what it is escapes me. Too sweet, though it does have some of the cotton candy goodness that makes me happy--this is a little much, though. Bitterness peaked at a 6 in the finish, mod alcohol presence. Mod carbonation, full body. Not their best.
