4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
A: Pours a deep black color with a dark mocha head. There are initially a lot of small bubbles, but after letting the beer sit for a minute, they disappear.
S: The smell when cold is not quite as impressive as after a few minutes of warming up. Coffee, some chocolate, and a hint of sweetness on the finish.
T: Lots of roasted malt, a hint of coffee, a touch of chocolate, and a great sweetness and creaminess to round things out on the finish.
M: A bit of a creamy feeling on the tongue, a bit more carbonated than I normally like for the style, but still great.
D: A nice sweet, low alcohol, easy drinking stout.

Pours black with a big, creamy, light brown head, and good lace. Smells very subdued with some roasted malts and slight chocolate sweetness. Tastes good. Dark and sweet with roasted malts and chocolate. Malt flavors and roasty sweetness lingers. Medium body, good carbonation.

4.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Jet black hue with thick tan head and big lacing. Nose is very subtle, light hints of coffee, cocoa, and melanoidins. Flavor is much bigger, with rich melanoidins, lactose, cocoa, and espresso blending in the front, transitions to a moderate hop bitterness with a earthy euro hop flavor, finishes with milk chocolate sweetness. Full body, creamy smooth texture, moderate carbonation. A top class sweet/milk stout with an amazing texture and malt profile, definitely worth revisiting again.

I grabbed a pitcher of the Cowabunga Cream Stout at the Solana Beach location. (Carp twirled a gem against the Pads that night.) Fantastic. Thereís no real need for embellishment here; itís just everything you want from a cream stout. This beer is highly underrated at 83. Jump on this one if youíre ever in the SD area.

On tap. Dark brown with an orange hue and a small off-white head. Sweetish hard roasted malt aroma. Medium body with a soft mouthfeel, very sweet hard roasted malts and some sweet licorice also. No bitterness as such, but ends very sweet. 080709
