RollinHard (468), Fort Worth, Texas, USA May 15, 2008 Pours a very dark brown, slight crimson tinge to it, and a small bubbly tan head that sticks around a while. Upon smelling this, I wonder if there’s anything other than sourness and cherries. I was prepared for something less tart. Eventually, the sourness and cherries give way to a lot of wood, old books, slight bourbon, raisins, and the faintest hint of toasty brown sugar malt. Tastes as tart as the aroma suggest, but not as fruity. There’s a HUGE tannin drying sensation on the tongue. Beyond that, there’s some wood flavor, over-steeped tea. Finishes with lingering hints of vinegar, wood, toast, and red wiine. Strong flavors no doubt, but it’s just so woody dry and a lot more tart than I wanted. Creamy texture medium/full bodied and soft carbonation make this much chewier than any sour ale out there. It’s complex, but I could not get any malt flavors or balancing sweetness from this, so I’m left unsatisfied. Pass me some Judgement Day instead. pepsican (509), coralville, Iowa, USA May 13, 2008 Dark brown with just a few bubbles floating on top. Aroma is musty bourbon. Flavor was bourbon, musty funk, some wood, cherry. Finishes slightly acidic, clean. Wish this had a bit more of everything. bhensonb (2316), Woodland, California, USA May 13, 2008 Bottle shared by Marcus. Wonderful sour cherry aroma. Dark brown color with a head that left quickly. Near medium body with mild carbonation. Somewhat woody - like cherry pits. Lots of mild fruit flavors banging around. Perhaps a touch of cola. Extremely pleasant drink. This one could be to die for. after4ever (1580), Brier, Washington, USA May 10, 2008 Draft at Brouwer’s Sourfest. Opaque dark brown with honeyed toffee highlights. Big tart red wine vinegar and oak nose. Mild creamy body. Sharp tart vinegar attack. Oak and funk and vinegar mid-palate. Somehow this completely ties together into a lovelyl, harmonious, approachable, even quenching beer. Lots of dark fruits. Phenomenal. IrishBoy (1904), Bakersfield, California, USA May 7, 2008 Sinner’s Club bottle; Nose of cherries, very light tartness, a molasses note, oakiness, and a very slight butteriness; rusty color with a very slight beige head; flavor is cherries, brown sugar, molasses, and very light tartness.
