| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 1, 2009 The beer poured a nice deep brown color with a slight tan head. This beer definitely has the look and aroma of a nice fruity Port. The taste was of a nice low carbonated, earthy brew with slight taste of oaking from the aging process. The 12% abv makes this a nice dessert drink to sip on and that is how I had it. The alcohol is apparent but not overpowering. aplusbreaks (330), , Colorado, USA

Pours dark brown with a small tan head that quickly diminishes into a thin collar. Aromas of sour fruit, cherries, bourbon, oak, vanilla, and a faint hint of chocolate. Flavors are sweet and sour upfront with cherries, darker fruits, and a lingering sour, and bretty finish. Thie bourbon and sourness is a very interesting combo. nbutler11 (741), Phoenix, Arizona, USA

Pours a murky copper color that thins at the edges with a mild beige head. Smells of sour cherries and vanilla, which I attribute to the bourbon. Features added notes of raisin, cocoa, oak, and faint lemon. Delicate for a strong ale. Reminds me a lot of a sour brown. ajm (917), Los Angeles, California, USA

Thanks Nick. I like the aroma so much because it is thick, yet subdued - very important because it could have become a raisiny mess: bourbon, vanilla, raisin, vague fruit, red wine. Flavor is the same, really red wine-centric for me (not at all in a bad way). The vanilla and raisin fall to the background, and the vague fruit clearly becomes cherry which is left to interact with the cab sauv flavors. I wouldn’t drink this often, but I respect it every day of the week. pimpp (8), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA does not count | 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Feb 20, 2009 BA review:
Thanks a bunch to Shane(beachbum1975) for sharing this great bottle.
375ml corked and caged brown bottle poured into a snifter.
A: Pours a reddish brown with pretty decent visibility. A moderate head forms and holds for a bit. Decent lacing.
S: A good sour and funky brett combo. Sour cherries blend with the aroma flawlessly. The barrel has done wonders, oaky, sweet, leathery. The funk further festers following Fahrenheit fluxuation.
T/M: Very nice, smooth, rich dark malty base. Yet again, then pleasantly sour and tart cherries match perfectly with the overall beer... never getting remotely in the way, yet making themselves known and adding loads of complexity. There’s a bit of a burn sugar quality, maybe as if the cherries were scorched, or maybe it could be from the char of the barrels. Definitely a rich leathery flavor and even feel. Tartness builds as the beer warms. A slight alcohol twang in the swallow but I’d never guess 12% and it’s completely hidden other than a bit in the swallow. The body is a smooth medium with good carbonation.
D: Very drinkable. 12% would definitely sneak up on ya.
