michael-pollack (2601), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 9, 2008 Bottle from 2008: Sour aroma. Smells of tart cherries, oak, and Brett. Poured brown/raspberry in color with a tiny off-white head. Hazy. Flavor is highly sour. Tastes of sour mix, tart fruits, oak, cherries, and alcohol. Light to medium body. Soft texture. Soft to average carbonation. Tart fruit finish. ATLBeerDog (280), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Oct 2, 2008 Pours a dark brownish/raspberry color with no head whatsoever. Beautiful smells of tarty, sour fruits with pears, cherries, and raisins. First taste is sweet, tarty and sour with cherries, raisins, green apples, and grapes all meshing into wonderful full sensory experience. Damn this is good. A tad more carbonation, please? - Complex yet mellow. Loud but quiet. TheEpeeist (1429), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 1, 2008 12.7 oz bottle, 2008. Deep, barely clear, magenta with a thin beige ring. Nose is cherry preserves and light funk with hints of raspberry, maple and vanilla. Juicy and mouthwatering with a mild tingle. Taste is sour cherry then red wine; beaujolais? Dry woody finish. Lip smacking good but doesn’t blow me away. fredandboboflo (1395), East Setauket, New York, USA Sep 28, 2008 Bottle from 08 Night of the Funk. Aroma of very mellow, smooth liquor with lots of malt. In the flavor an earthy tartness kicks in. Crazy, tasty, crazily tasty. LilBeerDoctor (1480), East Setauket, New York, USA Sep 28, 2008 Bottle sampled on 09/26/08 at Night of the Funk. Pours a cloudy brown with a small tan head. Aroma of bourbon and salty butter. Flavor is initially sour with a slight bourbony finish. In general I am not a fan of bourbon-aged beers, but this is definitely one of the better ones (moderation is key!). Pretty decent beer. nqualls (1429), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Sep 28, 2008 Bottle. Poured a dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma of oak, vanilla and cherries. Flavor reflects the aroma. mtoast (290), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 27, 2008 375mL bottle bought at Lost Abbey during RBSG, 3rd time I’ve had it now... very light carbonation on all of them, fairly viscous mouthfeel. Has a strange thick sweet flavor hidden in the finish, Judgement Day has the same thing, suspect the raisins are the culprit. I’ve tried.. I really have, it’s got some sourness to try and balance everything else out, but the bourbon and sweet flavors really distract from the rest of the beer. Almost a chore to drink the bottle. RCL (1443), Waltham, Massachusetts, USA Sep 27, 2008 Tons of cherries in the aroma and flavor. Sweet, heavy oak over flavor reminds me of a tawny port or Madeira. Comes off a wee bit cloying.
