bager (2121), Copenhagen N, Denmark Oct 15, 2006 Updated: May 22, 2009Bottled. Murkey and brownish coloured with almost no head. A bit sour and very parfumed. Notes of plums and balsamico.
Its now 22 of may 2009. And we are drinking a 2005. Oh wow! So well balanced - super dryness and still a lot of berry flavour. Have rated it 3 before - but I think now that it so much beyter jimbowood (947), Athens, Georgia, USA Oct 7, 2006 Updated: May 18, 2007Bottle. What an amazing beer. Oak, cherries, and whiskey dominate w/ a hint of brett. Not overpowering w/ sourness like La Folie, but just the right amount of sour. Possibly the fullest flavored beer I’ve ever sampled. Different taste in each sip. A combination of Raspberry Eisbock and Fish Tail Old Woody. I love it. footbalm (1218), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Oct 7, 2006 Thanks to Hellomynameis. Black label version. Gee, I thought this was a Flemish sour. Had a sour fruity flavor that was damn tasty. The Oak was barely noticable which was fine by me.
The sour cherry taste was the main note here and very fine. luckygirl (1221), Boulder, Colorado, USA Oct 4, 2006 GABF 06. Another winner. Beer was clear, dark brown with an average-sized, frothy, beige, mostly diminishing head. The aroma was Flemish Sour Ale-like; funky and pointy in all of the right places. It was malty with a light note of toasted grain and caramel; Hoppy with a light lemon zest note, moderate note of herb/grass; Yeasty with a trace of dank basement a moderate note of barnyard; Moderate sour cheer, sweet balsamic and strawberry notes sparkled through the back. The flavor was heavily acidic, lightly bitter, light-to-moderately sweet with a longish, lightly acidic, tounge piquing, lightly sweet finish. Lots of intriguing coconutty retros. The body was light, the texture was watery and the carbonation was lively. Again... must find more. Tasting this brewery’s work on a limited basis left me feeling like I was Prince Charming holding a glass slipper. hophead75 (1945), Boonton, New Jersey, USA Sep 29, 2006 GABF 06. One of the best belgian interpretations I’ve had so far. Aroma is woody, earthy, brett, funkyness, and fruit. Taste is incorporates all of the above, including dark berries, sour tart cherries, just incredibly complex and good. hellomynameis (794), Mayer, Minnesota, USA Sep 26, 2006 I was so looking forwrd to this one...got lucky in a trade and I held onto it for a tasting. I was a bit let down. There were some fruity notes in the aroma, but it feels more like a yest fruit than from the cherries they describe. This does not come through to the flavour. It is kind of sour, but not so much so. I feel like I missed something because I just didn’t get it. Slick (1962), Thief River Falls, Minnesota, USA Sep 26, 2006 Cloudy brown color, malty sourish aroma with a fruity sort of thing going on as well.Malty vinegar taste with a slight oily feel warm alcohol showing a decent hop showing as well.Theres a few things i like about the brew and i guess a few i don’t.The long awaited brew is not as dynamic as i was expecting but worth a try. JK (2946), Richfield, Minnesota, USA Sep 23, 2006 Updated: Jun 22, 2008Not so good. Light fruit aroma. Minimal yeasty weirdness. From the aroma and appearance I was expecting a Flemish sour, but what was there was dry and lacking in flavor. I did pick up on the oak but not the cherry. There might be no other beverage in the world that tastes like this, but it doesn’t taste all that good so that isn’t saying much.6/4/4/3/11----------updated: rating of an 05. Red. A little sour. Cherry and oak, and a very smooth palate. Lots of cherry actually. Not as sour as I hoped it would be, but still a significant improvement over what I had the first time.
