frylock (1001), Buffalo, New York, USA May 2, 2006 Black Label: Incredibly oaky aroma, lots of whiskey and some light brown sugar. Cloudy dark mahogany color with a thin white head. Whiskey flavor is surprisingly intense. Light sourness and some hints of black cherries, but the predominate flavors are whiskey, vanilla and oak. I would really like to try the other versions to compare the differences. Thanks to IPFreely for the chance to try this rarity. OhioDad (2491), Hilliard, Ohio, USA Apr 25, 2006 750ml bottle via trade with Foolish Mortal - Thanks Brandon! Pours deep mahogony with ruby highlights and a soft white frothy head that fades quick to a film but laces from there down. Aroma is a beautiful blend of sour cherries, some oak, a touch of alcohol and some vanilla. Flavor is an amazing blend of tart cherries, oak, roasted malts, vanilla, dark fruits, and some brett funk. Pleasantly blended together in a brew with a soft palate and full body this is one well crafted brew. The barrel seems to make this brew just melt in your mouth. This is really fantastic beer! Siroy (220), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Mar 19, 2006 Updated: Mar 21, 2006A fully diminishing small frothy white head tops up a hazy wierd unappealing medium brownish body. Moderate lacing. No particles. Few bubbles. Aroma presents malt being light nutty while hops are very faint grass ... Yeast character is light. Also, there are evident evocations of sour cherry, vanilla from oak aging and almonds, prunes, among others. Initial flavor is medium sour and acidic while development tends to lead to woody tones/vanilla overtones. sour. Very complex and well constructed. Smooth transition in-between flavors. Very impressive. As balanced as a beer can be. Oak barrel used at its best. Finish is long and medium to full body... creamy texture... Soft carbonation... Thanks to Rastacouere for sharing this!
[ Bottled ; chilled ; dates are unknown ] beerbuzzmontreal (2909), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Mar 16, 2006 Cloudy reddish brown pour with not much of a head. Amazing aroma of sour cherries and oak. The flavor is concentrated on sourness with it’s sour cherries giving a lot of character and then they are joined by the character of oak barrels and some brett. The body is light to medium with an oily texture and soft carbonation. It’s amazing to have tasted Panil Barriquée, La Folie and this in a row, an unforgetable experience. Merci David ! anders37 (4516), Malmö, Sweden Mar 14, 2006 Dark reddish brown colour with a thin off-white head. Sour fruity aroma with hits of wood. Sweet flavor with hints of cherries and wood. Nice cherries in the aftertaste. A very good one. pivo (2535), Germany Mar 12, 2006 Sour, berry nose nose - like black currant. Cloudy dark purple color, no head. Juice-like heavy raspberry sweetness, punctuated with woody and nutty notes. Sourness towards end. Heavy body. Really easy beer, but full of character. Great balance. Good going! YogiBeera (2437), Hamburg, Germany Mar 9, 2006 Thanks so much to Eyedrinkale and Mkobes for presenting this one to us! Very intense sour cheery peel and woddy nose. Muddy brown color. Thick texture - nice acidic taste - cherries of course but also almonds, some candy sugar and vanilla!!! Boy- what a nice one! kook (2034), Perth, Western Australia, Australia Mar 8, 2006 Bottle (Cantillon Open Brewing Day): Hazy brown with ruby highlights.
