Commercial Description:
This bold Belgian Style Ale is a blend of 4 sources of fermentable sugars. American Oak, sour cherries, and three seperate strains of brettanomyces. It takes over a year to make each batch because a beer like this requires patience, creativity, and most importantly, equal parts luck and skill. We know of no other beverage in the world that tastes like this.

Deep hazy mohogany in color with decent head and lace. Lots of champagne like bubbles. Nose of slight sourness with underlining sweet malts and fruitiness. Rich and expansive mouthfeel. Sour notes upfront, then hints of whiskey, cherries and vanilla oak on the finish. The whiskey really is intense for a second but doesn’t linger. Lots of layers with a clean finish.

A strong Belgian style ale with sour cherries. The resemblance to Flemish ales is extraordinary. Slightly cloudy ruby-brown color. Well balanced flavors of cherry, raisin. My partner and I selected this beer "best of show" at the recent Strong Ale Festival in Carlsbad, CA, which featured over 60 beers of 8.0 and higher abv. Amzaing stuff.

FoBAB. Reddish brown, kahki colored head. Sour brown ale aroma. Oaky, sour nose, some raisin. Taste is citrus, oak, red wine & red wine vinegar. Very nice flavor, not too sour. Very nice and easy to drink for a sour beer.

75 cl bottle. Reddish brown colour with no head. Sour aroma with notes of wood. Extreme sour and acid flavour, not a beer for me.

Hazy amber reddish beer with no head. Malty, light tart aroma with a yeasty and woody note. Tart fruity flavor with a faintly soapy touch and some sweet alcohol n the finish.

Pours dark red/brown with no head. Has a strong smell of port. Quite sour with aromas of berries, yoghurt, wood and alcohol. Medium to full bodied. Too sour and rather dissappointing for a beer rated this high.

Rerate, May 2nd 2008 at the brewery. Pours a clear brown with an off-white diminishing head. Light sweetness with a moderate sourness and a light bitterness. Aromas of sour cherries and cranberries. Medium bodied with a slightly stickty mouthfeel. Soft carbonation. Dry finish with more aromas of sour cherries.

Deep brown/orange beer, no head. Big acetic aroma, cherries, sweet malts. Massive sour Flemish character. Flavour is sweet, malty, chewy, toffeeish. Tart, lactic finish. A good beer, but I can’t help but think it’s overrated. I’d rather drink a Rodenbach.
