kms399 (267), plymouth, Minnesota, USA Sep 9, 2005 bottle black label, pours a black but you can see light through it when held up to a lamp. thick off white head little lacing. aroma is sour and lightly cherry. taste is suprising. i have never had a cherry beer i liked. taste is sour charries and something i cannot name. very good and quite suprising thanks to footbalm for this one. Merci Rastacouere. Ray1975 (251), Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, USA Sep 4, 2005 Black Label.. Poured a dark brown with ruby hues and a medium cream colored head. Aroma was cherries, sweet malt and vanilla or oak. Flavor was heavy on the cherries and vanilla with a bit of sweet malt and alcohol.. Medium mouthfeel with good carbonation. goldtwins (4078), Nesconset, New York, USA Aug 27, 2005 Poured dark brown color with a cream colored head. Aroma of bourbon, cherries, light tartnesss, and sugar/caramel. The flavor continues with the bourbon and cheeries. Sweet and tart with a semi-dry woody finish. So tasty if only it was half the price and sold in GA. bb (2905), Martinez, California, USA Aug 25, 2005 Bottle. Black Label. Very dark mahogony with a nice cocoa head. Opening the bottle brings lots of cherry aroma. Gives way to a whiskey aroma, chocolate, and sweet malt. First sip starts with lots of tart cherry - but it’s fruitier and lighter than expected. There’s oak and a bit of malt. Lighter bodied than expected. It turns into a nice refreshing beer with some sweetness and a good tart cherry flavor with some background chocolate. It’s good, but I wish it had a little more body and more at the end instead of finishing very dry. It just gets tiring and there’s a little too much whiskey barrel and not enough bret to add complexity. Walt (2289), Chicago, Illinois, USA Aug 16, 2005 Pour is nice ruby amber red with a thin khaki head...smell is sour cherry and oak...taste is sweet and somewhat tart at first with building tartness (brett) and cherry sour building into an incredibly dry wine like flavor...oak surely comes out in the finish too...I would not want to drink this everyday, but it sure was delicious... legion242 (1572), Richardson, Texas, USA Aug 16, 2005 deep garnet colored. wispy head that faded QUICKLY. Oaky, sour, cherry nose. I immedialtely said that I would not like this after smelling it- I really expected a bunch of sour, but the first sip is really rich and velvety and the cherry is there, but the sourness is really restrained. Very dry like a cabernet. No alcohol evident at all. Cherries at a really nice element. Walt says bready, but he’s a fag. willblake (2160), Belcamp, Maryland, USA Aug 1, 2005 07.30.05 Black label (2004?) 750ml. Deep, slightly murky brown with thin but lasting tan head. Aroma of chocolate covered cherries with syrup, cracked open and oozing out of a candy dish. Sour cherries, acid, Easter citrus and spice. Flavor bursts with more black cherry, wine cask, light cork, sherry hints. Alcohol burn and great acid astringency, at times somewhat chalky. Not at all what I expected and even better than I hoped, like a strong ale/flemmish sour blend (which seems to be exactly what they’re shooting for). This stuff could only improve with age.
