COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Once upon a time it was the most award winning Pizza Port beer of all time. Now it has found a new home at The Lost Abbey. A massive brown ale base that is made from four fermentable sugars including Malted Barley, Raisins, Candi Sugar and Sour Cherries, this beer is fully fermented before being placed in Bourbon barrels where the beer ages for one year with the Sour Cherries and the wild Brettanomyces yeast that we inoculate the barrels with. One of the most complex and unique beers we make each year.

Bottle at Mikkeller Bar. 2009 vintage. Clear, deep red/brown liquid with medium off-white head. Aroma of sour apples, funk, oak, vanilla, cherries and dark fruit. Taste is light sweet and light to medium sour with notes of dark fruit, cherreis and almonds. Full bodied with soft carbonation and sticky mouthfeel. Really enjoyed this one! Wonderfully complex.

On tap at Harry’s Hofbrau. Aromas of tart cherry, slight earth. Pours an aged burgundy-brown with minimal white head. Taste is smooth tart cherry and moderate bread. Bone dry creates a quick finish.

Draught at hopping pig. Pours a deep cloudy reddish brown. Aroma of sour cherries, wood, raisin, bourbon. Taste is sweet and sour. Palate is sticky, astringent, leaving a slick refreshment and salivation for more.

Tap at Lord Hobo. Pours a nice dark brown/reddish with small beige rim that leaves good lacing. Nose is of grapes, red wine, cherries and some sugar. Taste is of grapes, vinous, not too acetic but with a nice Flanders Red character still. More red fruits. Moderately sweet and not too boozy for such a hefty brew. Body is medium-full, carbonation moderate and mouthfeel slightly syrupy. Overall it was every bit as good as I thought it would be. Nice!

Draft at TDA’s 5th. Better or draft than the bottle I’ve had, carb helps. Bourbon and sour cherries lead on the nose, tadte brings in the raisins. But and pleasantly tart. Some lingering funk, nice.

Very cloudy, light brown color. Modest head but plenty of spotty lace on the glass. The liquid is brown. Slightly sour with a bit raspberry and cherry to the nose. The flavor follows the smell. Not extreme like some. There’s an element of darker malts. I detect no bitterness. A mild sour.

Seemed bottle conditioned....slight cloudy brown, decent effervescence. Some wine and brandy notes really nice. Some leTher and funk oak too. Excellent beer.

Raisins plums prunes sour cherries all over the aroma and palate. Very tart and crisp with all kinds of delicious fruits! Nice white head and carbonation. Bottle was older so had time I guess to get the yeast working. Glad I waited.
