COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Once upon a time it was the most award winning Pizza Port beer of all time. Now it has found a new home at The Lost Abbey. A massive brown ale base that is made from four fermentable sugars including Malted Barley, Raisins, Candi Sugar and Sour Cherries, this beer is fully fermented before being placed in Bourbon barrels where the beer ages for one year with the Sour Cherries and the wild Brettanomyces yeast that we inoculate the barrels with. One of the most complex and unique beers we make each year.

On draft at Bigwood 12/6/2012, from notes [3 of 11]. Appearance: Beautiful deep ruby brown. Small ring of off-white head. Aroma: Dark fruit. Bourbon. Vanilla. This will be good. Taste: Mmm. Bourbon barrel sweet oak vanilla. Love it. Sweet with a ?? of tart [wow my handwriting is atrocious]. The tart finish blends perfectly with the sweet start, and the two harmonize beautifully. Palate: Moderate carb, good coating mouthfeel. Overall: <3. Everything I love about deep, dark, sweet barrel-aged beers (e.g., Sucaba) married to the sours I also love. Top notch.

Bottle from Vika enjoyed at home
Brown, quite murky, no head. Smell of tart fruits, caramel, funk, hints of toast, oak and bourbon. Light sweet, cherries and booze, oak, vanilla, bourbon, raisins, some dark malts and toast. Extremely complex, medium sour, cherries, tart. Moderate bitter finish. A world class beer. It’s complex and well balanced. Nice!

Pours murky brown with almost no fizz. Smells woody, sour, and of cherries. Taste is sour, cherry, hints of vanilla, and subtle wood notes. Full-bodied with a smooth texture and soft mouth-carbonation, Lost Abbey Cuvee de Tomme finishes with a lingering sourness reminiscent of cherries.

On bottle from Vinmonopolet Vika. Reddish color, some foam. Aromas of cherry( quite distinct), nice yeast influence( Brett), autumn leaves , and some dried fruits. Some vanilla and bourbon in the finish. Medium body & high complexity . Superb sourness , some bitterness . Very enjoyable ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours dark brown but with red notes, no head at all, small ring of foam along the side, some carbonation in the surface. Aroma is sweet vanilla and juicy raisins. Some burnt figs and brown sugar and wood., Tart notes of the sour cherries down under. Bit boozy. Taste is light sweet, mellow and then really sharp sour and tart. Not what one expectet and surprisingly medium body! Finish is really tart too and long lasting. But then too some vanilla. Nearly redwinish dry tounge. The barrel comes here. Really sour and the tartness makes a fresh dry beer out of dense big quod.

16/VI/14 - 37.5cl bottle from Mi-Orge Mi-Houblon (Arlon) @ home - BB: n/a (2014-641)

Clear dark purple brown beer, some big beige bubbles forming a cola-like head, unstable, dissipates immediately. Aroma: sourish, vinous, wood, bit oxidized, alcohol, fruity, sour berries, some chocolate, on warming up also vanilla notes and dried fruits.

750 ml bottle is 2005 vintage, courtesy of ygtbsm94. Thanks Brad! Pours a hazy dark brown with thin beige rim head. No lacing, but the viscosity of this beer provides legs. Aroma is sour cherries upfront, with yeasty spiciness, bourbon, oak, vanilla. Flavor is same with a port complexity and moderate sourness that is delicious. A real treat to have had this. From notes 1/23/10 (Geist Dark Lord tasting)

750 ml bottle of the 2009 vintage. Pours flat as a pancake. Great nose though. Lots of leather, dark caramel, and a hint of stone fruit in the nose. Full, complex flavor. Leather, port, dark bread, and a hint of sourness on the back end. Warming finish. Outstanding, but a little carbonation would do this brew wonders.

On draft at Capone’s Lost Abbey event. A sour-sweet, fruity brew with as much complexity as I’ve ever come across. After trying this beer, I began having dreams about it (and about similar ones that so far exist only in my imagination). There is some lime in the aroma. The flavor is magnificently complex, with dashes of raspberry, cranberry, cider, lime, dark bread, and figs. It starts out tart, and then turns warm on the palate, before finishing with flavors of red wine and grains. Great!

Hazy brown with no head to speak of. Brown sugar , raisins , and cherry aromas. Flavor is mouth puckering tart. Sugar sweet with the brett making an appearance in the finish. Fruit lasts beyond.
