On tap at brewery, 01/26/08. Clear, dark brown with off-white head. No aroma from taster glass. Some dark fruit flavor (plums?), grainy aftertaste that didn’t work very well. Not especially sweet, malty or bitter. In fact, not much flavor, really.

Chalky and one dimensional. Sort of like a brown ale, but without the depth. They could do better.

Draft at Solana Beach Pizza Port. Dark brown pour. Aroma of lightly roasted caramel malt and some chocolate. The flavor is the same. Alexanderj thought 3.2ish.

Tried at Lost Abbey’s 1st Annual Barrel Tasting. Base beer for Red Poppy, 1/2 finger light tan head that dies quickly. Reddish brown color. Medium body. Very light flavor. Alchohol nose is small. Light hops, with a little grapefruit bitterness. Small sweetness, but leans a little towards dry.

Cask at PP Solana. After letting the cask settle it is dark brown with a half finger cream head. The nose is light and malty. This brew is very smooth, nicely sweet and malty. The cask is really pretty nice to this beer, not that I’ve had the draft version.

On tap out of the cask at Solana. Pours brown with a small tan head. Aroma is very mild, slightly roasty. Flavor is very Brittish, mild, but nice, malty and roasty up front, with a bitter and woody finish. The texture is amazing, creamy, low carbonation. The style is not my cup of tea really, but a good version of it.
