Davecooks (1150), Concord, California, USA Jan 28, 2005 Bottled. Murky redish brown in color with a big white head that fades with no lacing. Big Belgian yeast aromas but also a hit of some dark fruits. Sweet malty flavor with notes of fruits (prunes and cherries maybe). Also a bit of sourness on the palate. Spicey, sweet and a bit sharp in the aftertaste. Well Done! Eyedrinkale (3115), Beer Town, New York, USA Dec 14, 2004 Darkish amber color with a bubbly, lively head. Aroma is cherries & grapes with a very pleasant yeastiness. Taste is a great balance of sweet and tart, yeasty and spicy. Not much malt but that’s fine with me. An excellent dubbel. acrdz (4493), Boulder, Colorado, USA Jul 16, 2004 Updated: Jun 19, 2006Draft @ the Toronado - Deep brown and burgundy. Sweet cherry and oak/wine nose, really excellent and complex woody sweetness in the aroma. Medium carbonation, nice thick body. Mild alcohol presence, with a slight maple enclosed in a vibrant, fresh finish. Roasted nuts, cherry, very vinuous. Really an excellent beer, but I want to rerate to see if it’s this good again. hopdog (4779), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 16, 2005 Sample courtesy of EDA (thanks!). Bottle #127. Poured a cloudy mahogany color with an averaged sized tan head. Aromas and tastes of cherries, apples, grapes, light yeast and caramel. Very good and easy to drink. This was the last beer I rated at yesterday’s gathering and this was a perfect beer to end it with. 21iceman40 (1671), north little rock, Arkansas, USA Dec 13, 2002 They don’t just make pizza a the port. They are probably the most underated brewery in the SD area. They make some damn good beer, and alot of different types at that. This was anonother of their fine brews. I really didn’t know what to expect with this one, but it was really solid. It was a strong flavored brew, and it was hard to differentiate the flavors, but I wasn’t about to back down to this challenge. My MacGyver style instincsts allowed me to investigate further into the depths of this beer. It had a very dark appearence to it, but if you look closely you can see a light colored head, with alot of cascade action. The flavor was complex no the less, but it kind of had the flavor of chocolate dipped citrus to it. Therefore, becuase I dont have the bling bling to understand what chocolate dipped citrus tastes like I can only assume that a fair representation of this beer is a splash of yoo-hoo while chewin some extreme strawberry bubble-yum.
