Vac (2231), San Diego, California, USA Apr 3, 2004 This dopplebock pours with a nice deep amber brown body topped by a thick head with a good amount of lacing. The aroma is sweet and malty with slight caramel notes and a touch of roastiness. The flavor is sweet and malty with a slight roastiness, a touch of bitterness and some caramel notes. Full bodied and smooth with a slight dryness. DarkElf (2627), La Jolla, California, USA Mar 2, 2004 (Draft: Pizza Port in Solana Beach) Disappointing for a doppelbock; Malty with a moderate (and somewhat unpleasant) bite on the palate right from the start; Malty flavor lacks the oomph for a doppelbock, and the alcohol seems pretty low as well; Moderate bitterness strikes a good balance with the malt from start to finish; Slightly sour flavor is unexpected and not necessarily welcome; Ruddy chestnut color; Aroma is malty, but has some Belgian characteristics as it starts to warm up; Fairly well carbonated which enhances the bite on the palate; Light tan head quickly fades to a small ring and leaves no lacing HoppyBunny (88), Temptation, Michigan, USA Feb 15, 2004 Deep rich brown color, had a coffee smokey taste. Mine did not have much head on it. Kinda went down quick. argo0 (6145), Washington DC, USA Nov 27, 2003 Clear ruby with creamy beige head. Aroma is chocolate, cherry, medium sweet. Taste is medium sweet, roasty, cherry, caramel. Medium-full body. JohnC (1735), Mission Viejo, California, USA Nov 23, 2003 On draft at P.P. San Clemente for the rooftop party. This pours a dark reddish brown. It's definitely Not as sweet and malty as I would have expected. It had a touch of sourness going on. Definitely not quite what I'd expected from a doppelbock
