Draft at Haymarket’s PP night. Roasty but brown aroma. Dry and nice.  Light brown red. Sweet cocoa flavors with red fruits. Kind of an odd combo to put that much emphasis on fruits. 8/3/7/3/14

Draft on tap at Haymarket’s Pizza Port Event (Chicago, IL). Pours a nice darker brownish hue, near transparent but dark pour. A decent frothy tannish head dies to a film and laces small. Aromas are molasses and chestnuts, toffee, biscuits. Some cocoa dryness works in with a touch of dry hops. But this is a malt monster, complex toast and peanuts, cocoa. Initial is touches of molasses, brown malts, toast. Some caramel, toffee, and earthy dark fruit sweetness, a touch tart work in. Into some raisins, cocoa, some more molasses, with a nice toastiness. Touches of tobacco. This gives shades of Pullman Brown, meaning it pushes the edge towards a Brown Porter.. But gives a weird tartness. Solid beer, but not as good as Pullman. One of the better Browns I’ve had though. Really drinkable, toasty and sweet, earthy works well.

On tap at Pizza Port Carlsbad. Clear medium-dark brown in color with a nice off-white head. Aroma is malty with nuts, brown sugar, and roast. Flavor is nice for a brown ale, with more brown sugar than usual, along with caramel malt, roast, nuts, molasses, and a touch of hops. Body and carbonation are medium and finish is slightly dry.
