COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
First brewed in 2002 to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the original Pizza Port location in Solana Beach, we searched high and low and combined 15 of our favorite hops which were added every 15 minutes to the boil. Somewhat darker than other Double IPA style beers, our beer oozes the hop goodness of pine needles, freshly squeezed citrus and ground spices which are only moderately tempered by a sweet malt finish. Thankfully, for all of us hopheads, we have decided to brew this beer more than once a year. Look for Hop 15 to make appearances from time to time when space permits us to brew this, one of our favorite ales.

Poured into a tulip glass. Have had this in the fridge for about a month now. Finally found it in nor cal at the local bevmo and have been stoked to give it a try. Bright and lively amber/orange color but not very good head formation/retention. Very floral hops on the nose, smelling sweet and fresh which is great because I really have no idea how old this bottle is. The hops don’t taste super fresh but they have a fruity quality to them and still pack a ton of great resiny flavor. I’m getting a lot of bananas and citrus notes from them. The mouthfeel is a bit heavy, probably due to the lack of carbonation, but it doesn’ take away too much from the entire experience. The malty sweet backbone struggles to keep pace with the hops and just barely gives enough of an effort to make this a very drinkable imperial. It finishes dry and very bitter, showcasing the fresher characteristics of the hops and leaving me wanting more.

deep red with large white head, very attractive appearance. nose of floral hops mostly. solid bitterness before a deep hop flavor of floral, pungent, and citrusy hops. mid crystal sweetness with slight residual sweetness. the alcohol surprisingly distracts from this brew, it doesn’t mesh with the hop flavor. the problem is further storage would reduce the hops flavor, so this has to be considered a flaw

Entered for rating #600.660ml bottle. Poured a cloudy orange with a fine, creamy just off-white mostly lasting head, leaving some nice initial lace. Quite thick on the glass and effervescent to begin with. Piney and fresh on the nose; huge citric hop aromas: lemon, peach then followed by gorgeous grapefruit notes. A crisp up front piney, grapefruit bitterness with underlying sweet and juicy grapefruit flavours succeeded by spicy, peppery hops. A great sweet, caramel and tangerine malt balance; gets a bit toasty in the aftertaste with a touch of alcohol heat and a resiny bite. Medium carbonation sting, medium to full in body. Bright and prickly, slightly warming in the throast and rather refreshing given the ABV with a lovely lasting finish.

Sipping on this as I type... poured from a bomber into a Duvel tulip. Pours a very nice looking murky amber with a small but dense white head. The aroma is fantastic - my favorite aspect of this beer actually. Taste begins a bit bitter but gives way to some nice fruity flavors, but it finishes with more bitterness. Smooth on the palate. Overall its good and I’m glad I tried it, but don’t think this one would take the place of some others in my regular rotation - definitely glad I tried it though. Would drink it again at some point for sure...

Bottle. I was lucky enough to get this fairly fresh. Pours a nice cloudy orange color with a nice ’’two-finger’’ white head, that leaves some awsome lacing! Aroma is filled with hops that are piney, citrussy and resinous. The aroma also has some sweet and caramel malts and alcohol. Flavour is extremley bitter, with a ton of piney and grapefruity hops! There is also a quite hefty caramel malty finish, with some sweet malts aswell, and it is fairly tart. I also get flavours of peaches, green apples, resinous hops, faint amount of mango, spicy hops and alcohol. The body is medium to full with a decent amount of carbonation, and a very dry mouthfeel (almost like some one threw sand in your mouth!). Overall this is a fantastic DIPA, and probably one of my favorites!

23-APR-2010, bottle @home, from "Fish & Beer". Lovely hazy orange color with a fine creamy off-white head. Nose is exactly what I hope for, and the reason I love IIPA’s. Citrus aroma is very present, but the taste is even better. Lost of grape fruit, even some malty notes, and a very very long liqour-like aftertaste. Alcohol absolutely present, but WOW this is good. Best IIPA I have had. Never had a bad or even mediocre Port Brewing so far:-)

Thanks for the opportunity to try this awesome beer! A- Pours a somewhat cloudy bright orange with a 1/2 finger foamy white head that quickly fades to a thin collar. No lacing is left behind in the glass. Cloudiness is dynamic and moves about throughout the glass. S-Hello hops! A big dose of strong citrus hops sting the nostril. Some subtle hop spiciness and maybe (when you think/sniff really hard) some caramel malt. T-Big taste of citrus hops upfront that’s almost like drinking straight-up hop juice. A bit of resin and hop bitterness also comes through initially. The finish is a big blast of citrus hop flavor along with a slight floral hop bitterness. What lingers is a big hop resin along with some huge spicy hop accents. M- Low to medium carbonation, and smooth, oily body. Not the best body I have come across in a DIPA but still an excellent one. D- This is definitely a West Coast DIPA and is a very one-sided hop bomb. I would say that the only beer I have come across that is this much of a one-sided hop mess is Moylan’s Hopsickle. This, however is MUCH better...and satisfies the growing hop head in me. Great DIPA that I will probably trade for again...but also one that I would not have been able to tolerate when I joined this website. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 11-03-2008 03:38:50

22 oz. bottle- Pours deep golden with a nice head and good lacing, aroma is fresh citrus, this beers aroma is so clean you feel like you are in a freshly picked hop garden. The taste doesn’t disappoint either, it has a good hop bite, but is very mellow and piney and grapefruit comes out. Port brewing is fastly becoming one of my go to Breweries for awesome complex beers. Man I picked some winners tonight in my Imperial IPA vertical(This which got the gold, Widmer Deadlift which came home with the silver, and Bridgeport Hop Czar which had to settle for the bronze, man I love a good IIPA).
