3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 bblack99 (505) - Kansas City, Missouri, USA - APR 17, 2010
Bomber from Archer Liquors. Pours a ruddy reddish-orange with the faintest off-white bubbly head. Aroma packs a punch, with loads of hops and a good bit of malt, caramelly sweetness, and spruce. Flavor repeats the caramel sweetness and has a body that feels like honey. Lots of character, but a bit overpowering with spice and esters. IBUs are way, way up there, and that smacks the roof of your mouth before finishing with a shot of boozy alcohol. A little extreme for my taste, but pretty darn good.
4.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 slitcher (261) - Freeport, Illinois, USA - APR 17, 2010
Pours a hazy amber with a white head that dissapears rather quickly. Aromas of sweet grapefruit, caramel, and pine. Cirtrus grapefruit follwed by caramel, slight alcohol, and a bitter finish. Mighty fine.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 hamrech (131) - Carbondale, Illinois, USA - APR 17, 2010
This brew has a ridiculous bite to it, heavy lemon notes. Smell is bitter and also lemon-heavy, but doesn’t do the flavor justice. Looks awesome, dull orange and opaque. Mouth is pretty standard for a double IPA, thick-ish and oily. Reminds me of Bells Hopslam a bit, taste is quite different but has a similar feel. A real ass kicker, but a great double IPA.
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20 popery (1014) - San Francisco, California, USA - APR 16, 2010
A delicious DIPA with a ton of grapefruit hoppiness. It pours a great deep amber gold with a bubbly head. The nose is sweet candy grapefruit with caramel around the edges. The taste is citric and bitter with floral undertones. It’s like biting into a thick piece of candied grapefruit rind, sweet and citric on the outside with a bracingly bitter core. It’s thick with strong, fresh hops. The alcohol level is just right and complements the delicious hop bitterness. The feel is exceptionally smooth for such a huge-flavored beer.
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 CampesinoTino (456) - Lake Stevens, Washington, USA - APR 11, 2010
Bomber. Appearance is a dark orange/amber color with a very thin layer of head. Aroma is resinous hops with a little grapefruit and caramel. Similar to some of the hoppier Barleywines out there like Old Guardian and Bigfoot. Taste begins with aggressive floral hops and ruby red grapefruit citrus flavors followed by orange, nectarine, caramel and toasted malt sweetness. It finishes intensely bitter and hoppy with a strong alcohol kick at the end. Mouthfeel is creamy and slightly syrupy and similar to a fruit nectar. Very satisfying blend of juicy citrus sweetness with an array of complex hop flavors and potent bitterness.
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 nosniv (9) - California, USA - APR 7, 2010 does not count
sweet citrusy aroma tempts you as soon as the bottle opens. Pours a hazy honey color with small beaded head. Piney, grapefruit, hop taste explodes on your tongue but mellows with very mild aftertaste. Medium carbonation, and medium body.
4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 lefossoyeur (246) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - APR 4, 2010
Slightly hazy golden-orange topped by a generous creamy head that lasts for a while. Tons of fruity and herbal hops, some citrus and resinous notes as well. There’s a bit for every hop lover in there. Full bodied, just enough malt sweetness to sustain the massive hop bitterness that follows, so tasty. This hop bomb has always been one of my favorite, and revisiting tonight was no deception. Long resinous and grapefruit finale, alcohol really well hidden for 10%. A classic double (triple?) IPA.
