COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
First brewed in 2002 to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the original Pizza Port location in Solana Beach, we searched high and low and combined 15 of our favorite hops which were added every 15 minutes to the boil. Somewhat darker than other Double IPA style beers, our beer oozes the hop goodness of pine needles, freshly squeezed citrus and ground spices which are only moderately tempered by a sweet malt finish. Thankfully, for all of us hopheads, we have decided to brew this beer more than once a year. Look for Hop 15 to make appearances from time to time when space permits us to brew this, one of our favorite ales.

Thanks to a West Coast trader for shipping this to me a while ago. It has been sitting in the fridge waiting for the right moment. Given that we were trying other beers from Oregon and California I figured it was a nice thing to crack open as my contribution. I wish Port Brewing was available locally; I’d snap up more of beers like this. Of course by the time they reached the Midwest the price markup would make it more of a "once in a while" item.

Aroma / Appearance - The mild carbonation released lemon pledge and resin in a smooth blend. The caramel opaque body also had some woody notes. Overall it was hoppy but not nearly as intense as I was expecting when I first cracked it open.

Flavor / Palate - Fluid and warm it rinses across the palate. A trail of resin and grapefruit is a treat. Soon enough comes a dry woody finish that you would expect from a well put together imperial IPA. I could drink this alone and have no problems. Just a notch below the best it is no slouch itself.

Profound indeed. Sampled from a growler at DLD thanks to the generous sharer. Hazy orange color with a small head. Wonderful nose here, grapefruit, carmel, citrus, and pine bouncing between my elated nostrils. The flavor is similar with some earthiness and a nice balance between the hops and carmel malt. Great beer.

Murky orange and brown with a white head.
Aroma is toffee and toast. Herbs and pine.
Ruby Red Grapefruit Juice. Not a whole lot more.
Medium body. High carbonatioin. Dry finish.
Better than I remember, but still not all that.

A couple of samples at the GABF 06. Amber with a small head. The nose comes across as just a mish mash of funk. Dirty even. Flavor is more of the same. Seemed kind of flimsy to me. Big let down.

Love my hops. This one is a crazy hop experience without tasting too bitter at the end. Some pine and citrus aroma as well as taste. Very Big beer. Complex even though so hoppy. Smooth and hoplicious.

UPDATED: JAN 21, 2011 GA now has Port and Lost Abbey on the shelves! Bomber about 1 month old, drank on 1/21/11. pours a deep orange with a 1/4" white head... which fades away. huge citrus hop aromas with lively orange notes, some apricot and a touch of pineapple. big chewy body filled with citrus hop goodness. lots of orange notes along with other citrus fruits. a solid bitterness fills the mouth with some deep sweet malts towards the back of the mouth. a spicy bitter finish coats the throat and the tip of the mouth. this is liquid gold!

bomber courtesy of fordest! This is a total HOP bomb. Truly excellent IIPA. Aromas of apricot, spices and citrus. I wish I could buy this beer locally, b/c I would regularly. Pours a wonderful deep golden amber with minimal head. Great flavor from top to bottom.

EBF. Pours a cloudy dark orange color with a white fizzy head. Nose is sugary sweetness, lots of citrusy notes, and hops. Flavors of fresh hops leap onto the tongue as the citrus explosion begins. A malt texture and character follow up to soothe the tongue from its hop lashing. The palate is lightly fizzy and playful, but with a hidden syrupy smoothness. Finishes lightly bitter and refreshing.
